North America Regional Office

The UNOPS North America Regional Office provides services that help implement

projects for a range of partners, and support operations run by the UNOPS Mine

Action Cluster, Small Grants Cluster and Development Group Cluster. In addition,

the office serves as a liaison between UNOPS headquarters and its Executive

Board, which supports and supervises UNOPS activities globally.

The UNOPS Development Group Cluster is based in the North America Office and

supports a diverse and complex portfolio including partners such as the United

Nations Development Programme (the Bureau for Development Policy, the Human

Development Report Office, and the Special Unit for South-South Cooperation),

the United Nations Population Fund, the United Nations Capital Development

Fund, the United Nations Secretariat and a broadening community of primarily New

York-based UN partners in the delivery of project management, implementation

and administration services.

Background information - DFS

The United Nations Department of Field Support, Information andCommunications

Technology Division (UN DFS-ICTD) is responsible for thedelivery of applications

that satisfy the requirements of the Departments ofPeacekeeping Operations and

Field Support (DPKO/DFS) missions as well asSpecial Political Missions (SPMs).

DFS has implemented a range of systems to address the principalrequirements of

peacekeeping operations and to support and enhance theprocesses DFS

undertakes.

UNOPS has been requested to assist in the implementation of this activity.

Functional Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Data Management Lead in Entebbe,the Data

Integration Process Specialist will perform the following:

Write queries; develop stored procedures andETL packages for various

dashboard and transactional applications.

Monitor and troubleshoot the data processeson a daily basis in DPKO DW and

ODS

Maintain and improve performance,reliability and monitoring of all Data

Warehouse systems; applications includeMS SQL DTS, SSIS, Lotus Notes

Replication, SQL Replication, Changed DataCapture (CDC) and other 3rd Party

vendor applications.

Monitor automated system alerts, log files,and other Data Warehouse

monitoring tools.

Troubleshoot and resolve DW scheduled jobfailures, striving to meet

established SLA's.

Research problem tickets to resolve data,setup, code issues;

Provide detailed report of nightlyactivities, as well as communicate timely

updates when there are issues withthe Data Warehouse;

Interact with Tier I support, other Supportteams, as well as Development,

Integration groups.

Work on projects to better improve DataIntegration in DW environment.

Perform other data integration and admin related work (as needed)

Competencies

Professionalism - Strong theoretical background and knowledge of information

technology/information management best practice implementation in the field of

reporting and business intelligence and data integration. Strong analytical,

problem solving, writing and negotiation skills, including familiarity with software

development lifecycle and the implementation and support of complex information

ICT systems and projects.

Client Orientation: Ability to identify and analyze clients’ needs and develop

appropriate technological solutions to the business needs. Experience in working

with contracted service providers in a globally dispersed environment.

Planning and Organizing: Ability to organize, plan and implement work

assignments, juggle competing demands and work under pressure of frequent and

tight deadlines. Ability to lead a project team to completion and provide technical

guidance to staff.

Communications: Proven ability to write in a clear and concise manner and to

communicate effectively orally. Ability to effectively prepare specifications and

other written reports/documentation in a clear and concise style. Ability to

communicate with various levels of technical experience (developers/ operations/

end users/ management / support staff). Ability to handle sensitive and confidential

information with a level of professionalism and integrity.

Teamwork: Strong interpersonal skills and ability to establish and maintain

effective partnerships and working relations in a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic

environment with sensitivity and respect for diversity, including gender balance.

Education/Experience/Language requirements

Education:

Advanced University degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in social sciences,

information technology, computer sciences or in field related to the post

description. A first level university degree with a combination of relevant academic

qualifications and extensive experience in information systems may be accepted in

lieu of an advance university degree.

Experience:

At least 5 years experience in a Tier II/III MS SQL DTS/SSIS Support and

development role and supporting large databases such as MS SQL Server or a

similar RDBMS.

Over 2 years experience of Transact SQL (T-SQL) and a good understanding

for improved query performance troubleshooting.

Excellent diagnostic, debugging, and problem solving skills.

Understanding of .Net, WAN, LAN, servers, networks, security models.

Experience with Business Intelligence and Data Warehousing, including

dimensional modeling.

Must have advanced understanding of XML, XSLT.

Ability to communicate with various levels of technical experience (developers/

operations/ end users/ project managers / business analysts).

Working knowledge and experience on Master Data Management project which

includes master data schema development, access business rules, master data

design, data profiling and data quality processes, data migration processes, MDM

Hub architecture.

Experience in release and change management is highly desirable.

Language: Fluency in English required.
