About us:
Asili Agriculture is a leading grain production, trading, and integrated agri-service platform headquartered in Kiryandongo with operations in Kiryandongo, Masindi, and Amuru, Nwoya districts.
Role Description
The Crop Scout will be responsible for inspecting crops on vast farms to check for plant health, diseases, weeds and pests to help the company make timely and informed decisions. The position reports to the Technical Supervisor-Agronomy.
Responsibilities:
Planning
• Plan the order of the fields to be monitored according to the developed Schedule
Monitoring and Surveying fields
• Conduct weekly field visits to assess crop health
• Identify and report on potential pests and diseases
• Perform yield estimates on a weekly basis using a crop score form
• Collect data using photos and the forms in iForm
• Collect soil samples seasonally and forward to the technical supervisor agronomy
• Notifying security of any potential crop theft/ distraction
Recording and Reporting
• Collect and record data related to pests, diseases and weed status in a given field
• Make recommendations based on field status
• Communicate any irregular field situation to the line manager
Support Research and Development Efforts
• Supervising casuals in preparing and planting sentinel plots
• Monitoring crop and sentinel plot trials
• Participate in research projects as required
Quality Control
• Ensuring that the plant population is within the required threshold, seed is covered and planting with the right condition
• Ensuring that sprayer nozzles are dispensing the desired volumes and there is no blockage
• Ensuring fertilizers are applied using the right rate & distribution
• Ensuring that there are minimal losses during harvesting
Qualifications, skills and experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture or Diploma in Agriculture
• Minimum 2 years work experience on a large farm.
• Result oriented, quality oriented individual with high level of integrity
• Able to work transparently with all team members
• Open to change and learning new systems
• Effective planner and time conscious
• Computer skills
• Ability to ride a motorbike with a license
