A carrier-neutral facility built to Uptime Institute’s Tier III standard with the capacity to host up to 400 racks and deliver 4MW of IT power at the final phase. The data centre is designed to enable business continuity and is monitored closely to ensure the smooth running of all the critical IT equipment, enabling a secure and redundant environment.
Job Title: Junior Data Centre Facility Technician

Job Role
The Data Centre Facility Technician is responsible for the operation, monitoring, troubleshooting, and basic maintenance of HVAC equipment and electrical systems located within the Data Centre.

Job Responsibility
Primary Assignment – Electrical /Mechanical /Plumbing Systems Maintenance.
• Daily visual inspections on major data centre equipment.
• Basic preventative mechanical and/or electrical maintenance.
• Systematically troubleshoot various facility systems.
• Maintenance of related electrical drawing documentation and projects. • Work directly with contractors until assignments are satisfactorily completed.
• Quick and effective troubleshooting to diagnose mechanical and/or electrical system failures and working with contractors to quickly resolve or mitigate interruption in services.
• Perform weekly generator testing.
• Perform weekly power system audits.
Secondary Assignment – Support Services.
• Coordinate all-new device installations in Data Hall.
• Answer phones and respond to customer requests.
• Prepare server cabinet space for power, ethernet and cooling.
• Respond to Raxio NOC & customer tickets.
• Troubleshooting client colocation equipment.
• Work with Datacoms team.
• Perform tape swaps and reboots for customers at request upon request. • Respond to and escalate equipment alarms.
• Maintaining adequate supply levels for Ethernet patch cables, power cables, power bars, other tools etc.
• Ensure all visitors to the RAXIO Data Centre follow all health and safety regulations and protocols.

Minimum Education.
• Graduation from a trade school or recent apprenticeship in a mechanical/electrical trade or equivalent experience.

Preferred Education.
• Certification or degree in mechanical/electrical engineering

Experience
• 2-3 years of working experience with electrical /mechanical systems.
• Experience in data centre operations is preferred. Knowledge is required.
• Must be available for emergency on-call and shift work predominantly during the night and over the weekends.
• Basic knowledge of power systems (UPS', RPPs, PDUs) cooling systems (HVACs, airflow dynamics)
• Working knowledge of pumps, compressors, boilers, chillers, facility HVAC systems is necessary
• Working knowledge of UPS systems and associated switchgear.
• Working knowledge of standby generator systems and associated switchgear.
• Working knowledge of sprinkler systems/fire alarms systems testing, and building management systems.
• Excellent communication (Oral and written) skills.
