Through our digital marketplace SokoAsili (Swahili for “nature’s market”), we aggregate grain from a network of more than 15,000 small-scale producers and deliver farm
management services to large-scale (or enterprise) producers. These operations cover over 8,000 hectares of farmland, including Asili’s own commercial farms – the Asili Farms, and have enabled us to annually market about 40,000 metric tons of maize and soybean across the East African region.

Our integrated land management and marketplace solutions drive resilience and profitability. These are delivered via Conservation Agriculture “pillar practices” of No till, Maintenance of soil cover at all times, and Crop rotation.

Role Description
The Quality Control Officer will report to the Materials & Quality Assurance Manager. The Officer will be responsible for Grain quality of maize, mung beans, soybeans etc at our processing facility.

Responsibilities:
• Monitoring the quality aspects of raw, in-process and finished grain products
• Perform quality control analysis including tests and inspection of products and processes
• Sample and identify the presence of any bacterial or non-desirable excess material using the laid out standard procedures.
• Compute formulas, percentages or production specific factors using chemical and mathematical procedures
• Ensure good quality of packaging and storage materials

Grain reports
• Prepare reports on each test performed for measuring quality, quantity and composition
• Update Grain Quality standards and specifications
• Review and report the principle causes of quality loss and non-conformance
• Maintain records of all tests carried out and retain samples for specified periods as per standard operating procedures (SOPs).
• Ensure all check sheets are correctly completed and all non-compliance found have had the correct action taken and signed off
• In-house quality procedures, standards and specifications
• Determining, negotiating and agreeing on in-house quality procedures, standards and specifications
• Guide in setting up of quality standards and ensure production is maintained at such standards
• Establish, implement, and review Quality policies, Quality objectives, documented procedures, documents and records needed by the organization
• Identify relevant Grain Quality assurance training needs and opportunities for key staff

Internal and external quality audits and trainings
• Participate in trainings to improve compliance
• Arrange, coordinate and participate in internal and external quality audits considering compliance with the consistency and validity of issued grades, procedures and protocols that enable to increase efficiency and effectiveness.
• Collaborate with other divisions and units to ensure satisfaction.
• Actively support the company’s initiative to acquire ISO standards 22000 accreditation

Qualifications, skills and experience:
• Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Food Science/Technology, Biology, or Chemistry,
• Minimum 2 years work experience in food production or quality testing.
• Result oriented, quality oriented individual with high level of integrity
• Able to work transparently with all team members
• Ability to motivate people and to ensure quality guidelines are being followed
• Open to change and learning new systems
• Effective planner and time conscious
• Computer skills
• Open to nationals only
