Job Summary
Under the supervision of the Program Manager, lead the implementation of AFOD Uganda Off Grid project with the aim of achieving AFOD’s strategic goals and objectives, by providing technical and strategic management of integrated renewable energy and project staff.
Duties and responsibilities:
Programmatic coordination and management:
• Overseeing the project implementation and smooth integration of renewable energy with WASH, health, nutrition, food security and livelihood for socioeconomic empowerment and resilience.
• Built capacity of project staff and other stakeholders for quality improvement of the project interventions.
• Lead in stakeholder’s engagement and advocacy for leverage, support and ownership.
• Conduct regular technical support supervisions with stakeholders in all districts of project implementation followed by dissemination of situation report and Activity Progress Reports.
• Ensure good relationship and participation in health facility management and relevant district cluster coordination meetings especially WASH, Nutrition, Health etc
• In collaboration with team, develop and deliver annual/quarterly/monthly work/activity plans, follow up the implementation of plans and ensure timely review/adjust them to achieve committed target.
• Review all technical reports (weekly, monthly, quarterly and Annual) from all project locations and disseminate in a timely manner.
• Ensure proper record keeping and management of spare part movements
• Lead in the development of renewable energy project proposals and budgets.
• Provide technical support in all aspects of the project management cycle in ensuring the integration of Renewable energy with other programs using community led model.
• Perform any other duties that may be assigned.
Technical responsibilities:
• Spearhead the installation of the Off Grid Boxes to ensure the system is based on customer needs and structural conditions.
• Ensure routine corrective, preventive inspections, and emergency maintenance and troubleshooting of the Off Grid system and reporting is conducted professionally and reported in time.
• Carry out regular site root analysis in all locations.
• Investigate technical failures in time, prepare and disseminate formal technical reports for action.
Minimum qualifications Education
• A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical engineering is required and any complementary certified training in integrated renewable energy is an added advantage.
• Registration by Engineers Registration Board or Uganda Institute of Professional Engineers is highly preferred.
• Registration by North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP) is a plus.
Experience
• A minimum of 4 years’ experience in infrastructure management preferably in renewable energy installations and management. Further experience in project management especially in humanitarian and development contexts will be an added advantage.
• Experience in budget management
• Cable jointing qualifications and experience is an advantage
Core Competencies
• Attention to detail and good understanding of electric systems, keen understanding of diagrams and ability to translate the latter into real life systems
• Ability to work independently as well as in a team.
• Willingness and ability to solve uncommon issues of electrical systems.
• Willingness and ability to lift heavy materials, climbing ladders and moving about on roofs
• Ability to work under tight deadlines, juggling multiple competing tasks and prioritizing demands
• Excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills, English fluency (spoken and written).
• Advanced skills in MS Office packages
