Learn more at bantwana.org World Education inc. IBantwana (WEIIB) is implementing a five-year USAID funded BETTER OUTCOMES Project for Children and Youth in Eastern and Northern Uganda. The goat of the project is to improve the wellbeing of children and youth orphaned and made vulnerable by HIV and other adversities in Eastern and Northern Uganda. BETTER OUTCOMES is implemented by a consortium of five partners, namely: WEI/B as the prime partner; Mercy Corps, Uganda Women's Efforts to Save Orphans (UWESO), Youth Alive and Friends of Christ Revival (FOC-REV); each responsible for specific technical aspects of the project. The project is being implemented in 20 districts.

Position: 2 Parenting and ECD Coordinators
Reports to: Sector Head Parenting and ECD
Duty Station: Jinja/Lira Uganda

Job Summary
The Parenting and ECD Coordinator (PEC) will provide leadership to the establishment of the Parenting and ECD mandate of the project at regional level aimed at mainstreaming effective Parenting and ECD practices and innovations using developed parenting models. S/he will work closely with the Regional Manager, Case Management, Youth Development, and Economic strengthening Team Leads, Civil Society organizations (CSOs), local agencies and enrolled households to oversee the development, implementation, and evaluation of Parenting and ECD interventions. S/he will lead in the planning and actual delivery of trainings on effective Parenting and ECD and will ensure effective documentation and monitoring of the delivery of training models as well as the measurement of impact of skills training on effective parenting and child upbringing. Working with other stakeholders, the PEC will ensure parental capacity is strengthened with improved family relationships and increased parental engagement in their children’s education and general social wellbeing. S/he will provide technical guidance to the Parenting and ECD officers and will report to the Sector Head Parenting and ECD at the national level.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and lead the implementation of the Parenting and ECD activities in the region
  • Provide technical guidance to the Parenting and ECD officers in the planning and implementation oi the Parenting and ECD training models
  • Participate in the development of project annual, quarterly, monthly and weekly work plans and scheduling of Parenting and ECD capacity building activities at community level‘
  •  Support the development oi Parenting and ECD budgets and maintain high standards of stewardship and accountability for all activity resources
  • Provide mentorship, support supervision and coaching oi CSOs and Project officers to enable them spearhead delivery of positive parenting and ECD services to beneficiary households.
  • Facilitate and strengthen linkages and coordination between Parenting and the ECD sector with the other components of the project (Economic strengthening, systems strengthening, case management).
  • Support and work with project staff from consortium partners and CSOs to ensure harmonized planning and implementation of activities in respective them at areas to achieve project goals.
  • Support identification and coordination of training needs of partner organizations (CSOs) and community structures in Parenting and ECD.
  • Coordinate planning and implementation oi community dialogue meetings and Parenting outreaches at community level to strengthen parenting practices.
  • Represent World Education/Bantwana in technical meetings, events and other collaborative activities relevant to parenting and ECD.
  • Strengthen collaboration with various child protection service providers both formal and non a formal to ensure comprehensive service delivery to beneficiary vulnerable households.
  • - Develop monthly, quarterly, and annual activity and progress reports detailing trend in parenting and ECD activities

Qualification, Knowledge, Skills, Attributes and Abilities:

  • Degree in Social work, Development Studies, Education or Community Psychology with relevant training in Project planning and management or child protection.
  • At least 3 years ‘experience working with Child protection focused projects, OVC programming, case management and knowledge of HIV/AIDS service delivery among positive caregivers and children
  • Working knowledge of and experience with USAID funded programs/ projects policies and procedures will be an added advantage.
  • Knowledge of child development and its influence on parent/child relationship in every stage of child's development
  • Experience of working with a Parenting and ECD programme will be an added advantage.
  • Ability to work autonomously with demonstrated creativity, initiative and commitment.
  • Ability to work with multi sectoral external agencies, such as community social services, schools, health facilities, and OVC service providers.
  • Possess a high standard of personal and professional integrity
  • Willingness to work as a team member, taking on additional tasks as needed to ensure the overall success of the project
  • High level of attention to detail, ability to multi-task and work well under pressure in a culturally sensitive environment.
  • Strong analytical and inter-personal skills with excellent advocacy skills.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills;
  • Strong documentation skills
