ACODEV is a regional NGO that was founded in 2003 and runs integrated Community Development Programs in Public Health, Human Rights, OVC support, Livelihood and Grassroots Capacity Development programs including sub-granting for small grassroots organizations in East and now Southern Africa region.

With funding from USAID, ACODEV, in partnership with Catholic Relief Services (CRS) as the Prime, is implementing a S-year consortium Program: Sustainable Outcomes for Children and Youth (SOCY). The Program is designed to improve the health, nutrition, education and psychosocial wellbeing of orphaned and vulnerable children, as well as reduce abuse, exploitation and neglect among this population. It is expected to reach a minimum of 625,000 children and their caregivers within 101,500 households in 19 districts in central, south western and western Uganda. The program will improve outcomes for vulnerable children and youth by strengthening the systems that surround them; caregivers will have greater economic opportunities, which will increase their resilience and make them less susceptible to shocks; local government structures and C505 will be strengthened to provide services targeting the diverse needs of vulnerable children, and health and social service agencies will strengthen their coordination and referral systems to provide integrated care along the continuum of response.

SILC and Youth group formation are the key vehicles used to support the beneficiary groups. It is anticipated that for every household enrolled will have a minimum of one youth, making, approximately 100,000 Youth. 80% of these are expected to participate in SOCY Project activities. ACODEV provides Technical Assistance (TA) to the programs operations of consortium C505. It is against this background that ACODEV is looking for suitably qualified candidates to fill the vacancies below, to carryout vertical project activities, in the districts of: Central Region: Wakiso, Luwero & Hoima; Western Region: Kyenjojo, Kibaale, Sheema & Mitooma.

Reports to: Regional Programme Coordinator

Key Roles and lob Requirements

  • Disseminating gender analysis findings to CSOs and Provide technical support to IPs & CSOs to operationalize the gender strategy
    - Integrating and mainstreaming gender across the 3 Results Area interventions of the SOCY project and provide expert advice on this to the respective £50 & IP staff /
  • Conduct gender awareness trainings for IPs and CSOs
  • Raise awareness on how gender affects boys‘ and girls’ access to, and experience of health related services, and other development outcomes;
  • Sharing guidance documents and latest gender resources (e.g. research articles, program tools, job aids etc.) with program stakeholders to build their capacity
  • Provide practical actions to project team (IPs, CSO, Partner and Local Government staff) on developing innovative interventions that address gender barriers and help transform unequal gender norms and dynamics;
  • Increase dialogue and exchange about the importance of gender integration across all design, implementation, research, monitoring, evaluation, and scale-up activities;
  • Enhance the capacity of SOCY project team and consortium members (IPs and CSOs) to recognize how gender influences their research and program outcomes, and to systematically integrate gender into the work (through work plans and specific activity plans), taking advantage of opportunities to address gender-related barriers;
  • Participating in district discussions related to gender (potentially during DMC meetings)

Job Requirements
A Bachelor's degree in Gender & Development; Humanities; should be familiar with the GREAT Gender-sensitive Model; Gender Integration in Programming Approaches, National Gender Polio/, National Children Policy, National Youth Policy & other relevant Polies & Strategies. A Minimum of4 years in a similar position.
