Job details:
The Free Zones Act, 2014 was duly enacted by the Parliament of the Republic of Uganda and assented to by H.E. the President of the Republic of Uganda on the 2nd February, 2014. This Law provides for the Legal and Institutional Frameworks covering Free Zones activities in Uganda.

The Uganda Free Zones Authority (UFZA) is mandated to establish, develop, manage, market, maintain, supervise, control and to provide for other related matters of Free Zones in Uganda, as outlined in section 13 of the Free Zones Act, 2014.

The Authority now seeks to fill the vacancy of Operations Officer.

Title: Operations Officer
Reports to: Manager (Operations and investor support)
Terms: Three (3) years contract (Renewable upon satisfactory performance)
Salary scale: UF 5
Age: 25-40 years

Job Summary
To manage and coordinate daily activities within Free Zones to ensure compliance with management requirements for supervision and control of Free Zones.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

  • Ensure that facilities provided by business enterprises have obtained the approval of the Developer, and are in compliance with internationally approved practices
  • Inspect proposed Free Zone sites to ensure provision of physical amenities and infrastructure
  • Coordinate and monitor activities of the Developer
  • Liaise with Consultants and relevant Government Institutions to facilitate the execution of key infrastructure projects in Public Free Zones
  • Reconcile available Operations Performance Plans
  • Coordinate Customs control mechanisms with URA and ensure that contraband products and services are not used in Free Zones, in accordance with URA regulations and EAC Customs regulations
  • Coordinate regular Customs compliance visits in all operating Free Zones
  • Liaise and coordinate with Government Agencies and Local Authorities involved in Physical Planning, Environmental and Land matters
  • Coordinate with Consultants appointed by the Authority when putting up structures and infrastructure facilities
  • Build strong bonds with prospective Developers and Business Enterprises to execute their Projects
  •  Any other duties assigned from time to time.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and Management, Commerce, Business Statistics, Social Sciences, Economics or any related field.

Experience

  • At least 3 years’ working experience in Customs Operations and procedures, Business Process Management, Cargo Management in a reputable Institution/organisation.

  • Self-motivation and capability to work under tight deadline in a competitive environment and meet targets
  •  High moral integrity.
