JOB DETAILS:
Rakai Health Sciences Program is a collaborative Bio-medical research and service delivery organization. It strives to improve the quality of life of the local population through a combination of community based research, curative services and prevention strategies in the district of Rakai, South Western Uganda. It is based at Kalisizo in Kyotera District and Kampala.


The Program is seeking to strengthen its staffing position to efficiently execute its research and service activities. Applications are therefore invited from qualified and competent Ugandans to fill a vacant position based at Rakai Health Sciences Program- Kalisizo, Kyotera district as indicated below:


POSITION: District Health Information Officer (2 Positions)
Reporting Line: Regional Coordinator M & E
Duty station: Kyotera, Mpigi.
Main Function: The District Health Information Officer (DHIO) shall mentor district medical clerks in proper capture and management of HMIS data collected from health facilities and communities. They will also provide support in entry, cleaning and analysis of data captured for project purposes


Duties & Responsibilities:
1. Support and mentor the health facility medical records clerks in the following:

  • Recording patient visits and other registration data in appropriate HMIS tools
  • Preparing patient files for the clinic day
  • Filing all patient files at the end of the clinic
  • Filing all laboratory test results and other records in their appropriate files
  • Ensuring that the medical records room is orderly, and all files accounted for
  • Ensuring completeness, consistency and accuracy of data captured in the HMIS
  • Electronic capture of patient care records
  • Timely compilation of the routine HMIS reports
  • Ensuring availability of required HMIS tools i.e. registers, forms, guidelines etc

2. Aid in the following tasks:

  • Perform data abstraction from the HMIS and other sources for project reporting
  • Perform routine data entry into the project electronic management information systems
  • Ensure completeness, consistency and accuracy of data captured in the project MIS.
  • Participate in analysis and interpretation of data
  • Perform routine backups and ensure security of data captured into the project HMIS

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
To qualify for RHSP DHIO job, one should meet the measures below:

  • A first-class or second upper bachelor degree in the relevant discipline plus a Post graduate diploma in M&E
  • Knowledge of Information Systems (HMIS, DHIS & OpenMRS); Mentoring skills; Team Leader; Understanding of Local Government Structures, Knowledge of MER 2.3 PEPFAR indicators
  • Minimum of 2 years professional work experience in a busy health setting with a major role of preparing activity reports and accountabilities.
  • To qualify to work with RHSP, one must own a degree of integrity with reasonable work ethics
  • Ability to Ride and possession of a valid riding permit will also be an additional advantage
  • willingness to work in rural areas and execute work with minimal or no supervision and remain accountable.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and meet priorities
  •  A keen eye to details
