JOB DETAILS:
POSITION OVERVIEW:
To ensure that all medical supplies are dispensed in a safe environment and in compliance with the ministry of health regulations.

Medical supplies request function
• Makes timely requisition twice a week from the main store.
• Monitors drug usage on both Ward and I.C.U
• Monitor drug expires.
• Makes recommendations for medical needs to the procurement office.
• Gives feedback to the procurement office on the quality of the medical supplies.
• Acts as a middleman between the medical term and procurement office.
• Makes timely medical supply requisitions to the DHO’s office/ Mbale City health Office for some of the essential drugs that are provided by the government.

Dispense Medical Supplies
• Issues requisitioned medical supplies to the Ward, Intensive Care Unit, Operating Room and Outpatients Clinic.
• Dispenses prescribed medications to discharged and OPD patients.
• Regularly updates the physicians and in charges on the availability of new drugs and shock.
• Ensures that the medications do not expire before use by practicing the FEFO method (First to Expire First Out).
• Promotes cost effectiveness and responsible use of hospital supplies.

Monitor medical supplies stock levels.
• Maintains optimum stock levels for the efficient operations of the hospital.
• Maintains the medical stores in a clean and systematic order labeling all shelves and cabinets.
• Works with the Inventory Assistant in disposing of medications according to the CCHU disposal guidelines.
• Makes reports to the nurse manager on drugs that are no longer in use or not frequently used as necessary.

Immunization
• Maintains updated immunization records.
• Maintains and observes the cold chain protocol.
• Makes timely requisitions to the DHO’s office for vaccine.

Patient and Staff care
• Demonstrates respect for patients and their families regardless of tribal origin, gender, race, religion, disease process, or financial status.
• Demonstrates a caring, Christ-like attitude toward staff, patients, and their families.
• Demonstrates a positive rapport and cooperative work relationship with associates.

Record Keeping
• Maintains confidentiality of all CURE patient records and only discusses patient data that is pertinent to the involved health care provider. Nonspecific patient information may be used for purposes of quality assurance.
• Updates stock records in the medical store on a daily basis
• Gives reports on stock levels every Monday morning of every week and at the end of every month to the N/M’s office.

Communication
• Communicates effectively with other disciplines within the facility to ensure a continuum of patient care.
• Acts as a communication link between the medical services and procurement/inventory office.

Occupational Health & Safety
• To work in such a way that does not cause injury to yourself, other staff members or customers.
• Following & complying with Health &Safety policies, processes & applying them to one’s work activities, including using/wearing Personal Protective Equipment as required.
• Participating in activities directed at preventing harm & promoting well-being in the workplace Identifying, reporting & self-managing hazards where appropriate.
• Early and accurate reporting of incidents at work and raising issues of concern when identified.

Spiritual Ministry participation
• Participates in the hospital’s Spiritual Ministry programs.
• Attend chapel and departmental bible studies with staff (depending on weekly schedule)

Professional development function
• Identification of short-term training that can help you perform your role better.
• Participate in the scheduled training and sensitization arrangements by the hospital for all co-workers.
• Ensure that the professional training tracker card is updated as per the above-mentioned training attended.
• A minimum of 3 professional development sessions - self initiated done in the fiscal year.

Punctuality and Attendance
• Report to work as scheduled.
• Report to work on time as per schedule.

Participation in Meetings
• Attend and participate in department meetings as scheduled.
• Attend and participate in general co-workers’ meetings as scheduled.

Education / Experience Requirements:
• Completed a Diploma in Pharmacy Dispenser
• Possess a current certificate from Allied Health Practitioners Council
• Good knowledge of general scientific principles, practices, specialized techniques used in the practice of Pharmacy dispensing.
• High degree of integrity and professional values.
• Excellent communication and report writing skills.

Essential Skills
• Maintains open communication with members of various levels of management.
• Good teamwork and interpersonal skills.
• Good oral and written communication and presentation skills
• High level planning and organizational skills including efficient and effective time management and the ability to prioritize tasks.

Essential Experience and knowledge
• At least one-year experience in or demonstrated ability and desire to learn and embrace new ideas.
