Overview
Jhpiego, an affiliate of Johns Hopkins University is implementing The Challenge Initiative (TCI), a project funded by Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF) through The Bill & Melinda Gates Institute for Population and Reproductive Health (GI) at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. This is a multifaceted multi-year program focused on the rapid expansion and sustainable scale up of urban family planning programs worldwide but with a focus on the largest cities in Asia and Africa. TCI works in 5 Regional Accelerator Hubs. Jhpiego is responsible for the East Africa Accelerator Hub covering Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.
Reporting to the East Africa Project Director, the Uganda Country Program Lead will be responsible for overseeing the implementation of the Initiative's technical and programmatic activities to ensure sustainable adoption of Family Planning (FP) innovations, and scale-up in the selected geographies (Counties, Districts or Cities) in Uganda. S/he is expected to closely collaborate with Jhpiego Uganda Country Director in fulfilling her/his role.

Responsibilities:
• Responsible for leadership in ensuring successful implementation of Uganda annual work plans and achievement of the project's objectives and goals while maintaining technical integrity
• Represent the Initiative at national, regional fora and technical meetings, facilitating dissemination and use of project learning among key stakeholders
• Develop and maintain strong working relationships with the Government of Uganda, Ministry of Health, Local Councils/ Governments, implementing partners, private sector partners, donors and other key stakeholders to optimize success and maximize resource efficiency.
• Oversee advocacy and marketing activities for a demand-driven approach for expansion of urban FP innovations in both the government and private sectors in Uganda in collaboration with country stakeholders.
• Support the development of and provide technical reviews and strategic inputs into the design, development and adaptation of key TCI components including the FP Tool Kit, TCI University, TCI Community of Practice, training curricula and FP/AYSRH best practices and other program materials.
• Support program Cities/Districts to engage with governments, donors, implementing partners, foundations and other nongovernmental organizations on innovative ideas for family planning resource mobilization and leveraging on existing FP or related investments
• Provide mentorship and coaching to program staff, District Health teams and other partners on Family Planning innovations and best practices, scale up and institutionalization

Required Qualifications:
• Minimum of a Master's degree in a health, public health or related degree
• At least 10 years work experience in an expanding reproductive health/family planning or similar program, 5 years of which should be at senior level program management
• Experience building capacity at individual and organizational levels; including working with Ministries of Health and district staff, systems, local organizations, particularly in the area of reproductive health/AYSRH/ Family Planning - experience working in the East Africa region is a plus
• Demonstrated experience in working with international, regional/local donors & foundations and ability to establish and maintain professional relationships
• Demonstrated evidence of successful grants management experience is a plus.
• Excellent leadership, management and communication skills
• Ability to travel nationally and regionally
• Computer literacy
