The International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to the world’s worst humanitarian crises and helps people to survive and rebuild their lives. Founded in 1933 at the request of Albert Einstein, the IRC offers lifesaving care and life-changing assistance to refugees forced to flee from war or disaster. At work today in over 40 countries and 22 U.S. cities, we restore safety, dignity and hope to millions who are uprooted and struggling to endure. The IRC leads the way from harm to home. The IRC has been working in Uganda since 1998 supporting nationals and refugees and various institutions in the country notably the government, community-based organizations, the civil society and the private sector. The current program portfolio in Uganda includes health, peace building, gender-based violence, economic recovery and agribusiness, and children & youth. IRC has a country office in Kampala, and field offices in Moroto, Kiryandongo, Kyaka II, Yumbe, Imvepi, Kiryandongo and Moroto
IMPACT challenge is an annual IRC competition of creative ideas selected and awarded a small grant to complete within a period of one month. Five ideas won the competition this year. Among them was creation of newborn baby kits (La’tin Kere kits) containing locally woven warm baby clothes aimed at fighting sickness and death resulting from hypothermia (low body temperature) among newborns especially pre-matures. This project is expected to be implemented by the month of September and it involves empowering WPE women groups already involved in knitting activities (train them) to improve their skills to weave baby items including head gears/caps, stockings, towel (or baby cloth) and hand gears which will be packed and distributed to settlement facilities i.e. Paluda H/C III, Awich H/C II and Akworo H/C II.

Scope of Work:
The trainer(s) is/are expected to be residential for a period of not less than 10 working days to perform the following activities;
• Training the WPE knitting team on the skills they are not well conversant with as far as knitting the newborn items mentioned above is concerned.
• Participate in the knitting process as a demonstration process.
• Engage every participant in active knitting process throughout your process of training.

Deliverables:
• By the end of the 10 days training each participant should demonstrate evidence of competence in knitting newborn wear by producing at least one kit of fully self-woven newborn wear consisting of a head gear, hand gear, towel/baby’s cloth, and stockings.

Qualifications
• Proof of knitting skills and ability to train others to perform knitting.

In accordance with these values, the IRC operates and enforces policies on Beneficiary Protection from Exploitation and Abuse, Child Safeguarding, Anti Workplace Harassment, Fiscal Integrity, and Anti-Retaliation.
