Emata is a spin-off of fintech company Laboremus Uganda. Emata was founded in 2017, and is based in Kampala, Uganda.
Our goal is to make farmer financing simple, available and affordable.

Our story
2020
Emata Uganda Limited is registered!
We started Emata because we were convinced that we could leverage the technologies, big data capabilities and innovative business modelling we had built with Laboremus Uganda.
Our goal is to solve agricultural financing in Africa!
2020 cont.
We started piloting with two dairy cooperatives in the Central region.
In December we received our Microfinance License in Uganda.
2021
We started lending to dairy farmers in February 2021!
In May, we won Catapult Inclusion Africa and in September we joined the Plug & Play accelerator program.
2022
In March, Emata starts giving loans to maize farmers, followed by oilseed farmers.
We sign a UGX 2.2 billion deal with the Dutch embassy on debt-funding!
What's next?
We are scaling up in Uganda, in dairy, maize and oilseeds, and soon coffee.

Did you know that a farmer automatically receives an SMS every time their delivery is registered in Emata?
