Job Title: 2 Psychosocial Counsellors -Arua Sub Office

Job Summary:
Reporting to the ECHO Emergency Initiative Manager for support and Supervision, the Psychosocial Counselors will be responsible for providing the day to day psychological support to the beneficiaries as well as providing specialized counseling support to SGBV cases and general information to community. The Psychosocial Counselor position will supervise Community Based Volunteers.

Responsibilities and Tasks

  • Overall running of the Support Centers: Provide individual or group psychological support such as counseling and support groups to survivors of GBV and their families.
  • Case Management: Provide an assessment on selected cases referred by the community Volunteer
  • Documentation and Reporting: Produce and maintain accurate cast files of the beneficiaries
  • Coordination: Represent CARE at key strategic meetings in line with your work and maintain cordial working relations with key service providers/stakeholders.

Qualification and Experience

  • Minimum of a Diploma in Social work and administration, Development studies, gender studies, community psychology, Adult and community education, social sciences, Education, or any other relevant academic discipline. A degree in the above fields is an added advantage.
  • Minimum of 3 years working experience in GBV programming. psychosocial support interventions with international NGOS in emergency situations or conflict/post conflict situations.
  • Fluency in English with added knowledge of Aringa, Madi, Kakwa and Arabic.
  • Experience working with local partners and district local government in community mobilization and Advocacy.
  •  Strong experience working with vulnerable people including survivors of SGBV and victims of child abuse.
  • Familiarity with IASC Guidelines on Mental Health and Psychosocial Support In Emergency Settings;
  • Strong analytical skills and strategic planning abilities.
  • Ability to establish and maintain conducive collegial relations and perform effectively as a member of a team.
  • Computer literacy and excellent documentation skills are a must.
  • Ability to and willingness to work extra hours during times of humanitarian responses.
  •  Highly developed cultural awareness and ability to work well in a community environment with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
