JOB DETAILS:
Rakai Health Sciences Program is a collaborative Bio-medical research and service delivery organization. It strives to improve the quality of life of the local population through a combination of community-based research, curative services and prevention strategies in the district of Rakai, South Western Uganda.
RESEARCH ASSISTANTS - 6 POSITIONS (KALISIZO)
The research assistant shall participate in health education of study participants, data collection, documentation, informed consent process pre- and post-HIV test counseling and to ensure that high quality data produced in a timely manner..

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
• Proper identification of households and study participants as per training/PROTOCOL
• Asking questions, probing and recording responses in a manner that does not contradict the protocol
• Answering questions that the respondents may ask before, during and after the interviews.
• Reading and explaining the consent form to the study participant.
• Ensuring availability of supplies and logistic enough to perform the day’s task (SELF AND TEAM PREPARATION).
• Respectful handling of and dealing with study participants and other community members and confidential handling participant data and RHSP information
• Completing household census forms and survey questionnaires and/or forms/GIS data in accordance with protocol and checking for validity/consistency of the information collected, as well as collecting and validating information (during survey) that was not readily available at the time of census for reasons such as absence of a household member.
• Maintaining regular contact with the team leader and editor and handing over completed census and survey forms to the field editor or team leader as soon as they are ready.
• Collecting, labeling and temporary storage of biological specimens and handing them over to the field laboratory contact person as soon as they have been collected; and ensuring sterility of equipment used for specimen collection as well as ensuring proper bio-hazard disposal.
• Perform clinical duties which may include provision of care and treatment to patients at the mobile clinics, phlebotomy and taking of vital measurements including blood pressure.

 KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
• The successful candidate should have a Diploma in Comprehensive Registered Nursing/ Diploma in Education/social work from a reputable institution.
• Working experience of at least 1 year in a reputable health organization Experience in human subject’s research (added advantage)
• Willingness to reside in Rakai / Kyotera districts.
• Good interpersonal and organizational skills.
• Fluent in Luganda.
• Ability to work under minimum supervision.
• Valid riding permit
• Ability to use a computer
• Experience in human subject’s research /Certificate in counselling from TASO or Ministry of Health is an added advantage.
