JOB DETAILS:
Conservation Through Public Health (www.ctph.org) is a 17-year-old Ugandan registered NGO and nonprofit that promotes biodiversity conservation by enabling people, wildlife and livestock to coexist through improving health and community livelihoods in and around protected areas in Africa. Conservation Through Public Health (CTPH) envisions ecosystems where wildlife and people prosper in shared, dynamic, resilient, and healthy environments. CTPH has established itself as a leader in sustainable development through integrated human, animal and ecosystem health approaches.
We work with the government, local community, civil society and the private sector, currently with field programs in 2 countries in Africa, Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to implement three main program areas, which are integrated:
1. Wildlife Conservation including wildlife health
2. Community Health with a focus on One Health
3. Alternative Livelihoods for protected area communities .

Specific Roles
• Lead implementation of CTPH community field programs
• Manage and/or recruit human and wildlife conflict resolution teams or Community Wildlife Scouts
• Participate in recruitment of Village Health and Conservation Teams (VHCTs)
• Supervise the work of Village Health and Conservation Teams (VHCTs) working with CTPH in (i) behavior change communication, (ii) data collection and (iii) side effects management from family planning use
• Support monitoring and evaluation of the data collected by VHCTs, and link them to the health centers through replenishing their medical supplies
• Train VHCTs to deliver community health services and conservation education
• Participate in training of Human and Gorilla Conflict Resolution Teams (HUGOs) and other community resource persons reducing human and wildlife conflict
• Engage Reformed Poachers in meaningful alternative livelihoods
• Support VHCTs, and HUGOs to create group income generating projects and establish Village Saving and Loan Associations (VSLAs)
• Attend VHCT and HUGO VSLA meetings and provide the relevant support in monitoring and evalution of their outputs and outcomes through data collection, home visits and quarterly meetings
• Work with the CTPH Veterinary team to support the Community Animal Health Workers
• Implement the Kids League Model and other conservation education programs in schools
• Participate in One Health research to support CTPH field programs
• Provide logistical support to CTPH visitors in the field including volunteers, practitioners, students, researchers, donors and the general public
• Implement activities based on project work plans and budgets
• Prepare and submit timely reports
• Be the link between the community, local partners and CTPH on issues regarding conservation, community health and livelihoods improvement

Skills/Experience:
• Ability to work on own initiative.
• Report writing skills
• Good communication skills
• Excellent IT skills, including a working knowledge of presentation software packages,
• preferably Microsoft Office Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
• Excellent organisational skills
• Excellent interpersonal skills
• Proven track record in project management and leadership

Qualifications:
• A certificate or diploma in Community Health, Conservation, Social Sciences, Community Development, Social Work or a related field from a recognized University and/or a minimum of two years’ experience working in a related field
• A degree in Community Health, Social Sciences, Community Development, Social Work, Conservation or a related field from a recognized University and/or a minimum of two years’ experience working in a related field
• Knowledge of conservation and protected area management is an added advantage
• Knowledge of public health is an added advantage
• Good communication and interpersonal skills that enhance team work
• Ability to work independently, task oriented and have a positive attitude towards wildlife conservation
• Ugandan national
• Good command of the local language (fluent in written and spoken)
• Preferably a resident of the field location area
