MUJHU RESEARCH COLLABORATION – MUJHU CARE LTD, a Kampala – based equal opportunities HIV/ AIDS Research and Service Delivery Organisation with more than 350 employees is seeking interested, committed and reliable professionals with the described qualifications to apply for the following positions in support of the following studies: MIRASOL clinical trial, a four year US Department of Defense funded project. NeoObs study, a one year DNDi/ GARDP funded project and Group B streptococcus (GBS) study- an initial 6 month pilot study with extension for 3 years after the pilot phase is successfully completed. All are being implemented in Kampala, Uganda.
The MIRASOL clinical trial is a Randomized Trial to evaluate Mirasol Whole Blood Pathogen Reduction Technology System to eliminate malaria and other transfusion transmitted infections such as HIV, hepatitis and bacteria which will be a collaborative activity involving the Uganda Blood Transfusion Service and multiple leading health institutions.
The NeoObs study is an international multi-centre observational study (Neo-Obs-001) to collect clinical and microbiological information on presumed and confirmed serious bacterial infections in neonates, and to collect information on existing standards of care treatments.
The GBS study is a prospective cohort study that will be looking at the burden of GBS disease in pregnant women and infants and the levels of protection against the GBS disease to inform GBS vaccine development. More information is available about the studies on the MUJHU website www.mujhu.org .
Post: Nurse Coordinators – multiple positions (Mirasol/Neo-Obs/GBS Study)
Description and purpose:
The successful candidate will oversee and coordinate the day to day study activities and ensure that all staff are correctly carrying out their duties related to the study protocol and regulatory requirements. S/he will also be responsible for direct supervision of study data collection including consenting and verifying and ensuring correct completion of study forms.
Qualifications and Experience required:
A Bachelor's degree in nursing/midwifery from a recognized institution with at least 3 years working experience in a busy health institution from a recognized institution with at least 4 years working experience in a busy health institution. Experience with counselling and working in a research setting is an added advantage. Computer literacy is required as data will be directly uploaded via and electronic database. Consideration will be given to persons with previous working exposure in a multi-disciplinary, maternal and child medical research or program set-up and supervision of a team. The desired person should be willing and able to multitask and should possess strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
The holder of these positions will work under the supervision of the Study /Program coordinator with guidance from the Nursing Operations Manager.
