Tropical Bank provides professional and personalized commercial banking services to various sectors of the economy including Parastatals, Corporates, Small and Medium Enterprises, Individuals, and Non-Governmental Organisations. The Bank seeks to recruit a qualified and competent risk management professional for the position of Senior Manager Risk.
Reports to: Managing Director
Location: Kampala , Uganda

Job Purpose: To develop and implement an enterprise-wide risk management strategy and framework that includes all aspects of risk in the Bank including but not limited to credit risk, operational risk, market risk, legal risk, compliance risk and information technology risk in accordance with the approved strategy.

Key Roles and Responsibilities:

• Develop risk management policies including quantification of risk appetite through specific risk indicators, matrices, tolerance levels and early warning signals to ensure the Bank operates within the set parameters
•  Improve the Bank’s risk management environment and create appropriate organizational risk culture, through communication, training programs and risk-based performance measurements.Identify high risks and devise ways of mitigating the risks including disaster recovery plans as well as business continuity strategy to ensure the business continues to operate with minimum interference.
• Specify appropriate controls in respect to management of the Bank’s balance sheet and treasury operations.
• Conduct coaching and training of relevant staff to enhance credit appraisal skills, improve the quality of the advances and contribute to the achievement of set NPA targets.
•  Leverage risk management by incorporating risk/return considerations in products and pricing to ensure the Bank earns value for risk taken on and maximize profits.
• Monitor, review and provide management and the Board with detailed quantitative information on the risk exposures of the Bank, recommend and implement the agreed remedial actions.

Qualifications and Competence:

•  Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Statistics, Commerce or Business Administration or in related areas.
•  ACIB or similar professional qualification is preferred. 8 years’ experience in a financial institution, 5 years in risk management, 3 of which must be at management level.
• Extensive knowledge and experience in credit risk, operational risk, country risk analysis, balance sheet management, bank products, and treasury skills.
• Proficient in banking platforms including T24, CRB and MIS
• Results Oriented with proven track record of achieving targets.
