TVET Trainer – For National Certificate Programs: Ict, Catering, Electrical Installation & Maintenance
1. Minimum Qualifications Academic And Professional Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or National Diploma in a relevant field:
- ICT / Computer Science / Information Technology
- Catering
- Electrical Engineering / Electrical Installation & Maintenance
- A Post Graduate Diploma in Technical Teacher Education – PGDTTE) or DITTE is mandatory
- Valid registration/accreditation with TVET Council Uganda
Experience
- At least 2–3 years of practical industry experience in the relevant trade
- Experience in training, coaching, or mentoring learners in a TVET or vocational setting
- Demonstrated ability to deliver competence-based training and assessment
Key Competencies
- Strong practical and technical skills in the specific trade area
- Knowledge of CBET curriculum design and delivery
- Assessment and evaluation skills aligned with national occupational standards
- Digital literacy (especially for ICT and blended learning delivery)
- Communication, facilitation, and learner-centered teaching skills
- Occupational health and safety awareness
2. Roles Of A TVET Trainer
A TVET Trainer is responsible for delivering competence-based, industry-relevant training that equips learners with practical skills, knowledge, and attitudes required for employment or self-employment.
Key roles include:
- Trainer and facilitator of learning
- Assessor of competencies
- Mentor and career guide
- Curriculum implementer
- Industry liaison and skills developer
3. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
A. Training Delivery (CBET Implementation)
- Deliver competence-based training aligned with National Certificate standards
- Prepare work plans, Activity plans, Work sheet, assessment Rubric and training materials
- Use practical, hands-on teaching approaches (workshops, simulations, demonstrations)
- Integrate theory with real-life industry practices
B. Assessment and Certification
- Conduct continuous and summative assessments based on occupational standards
- Develop and administer practical and theoretical tests
- Maintain accurate records of learner performance
- Participate in internal and external assessment moderation processes
C. Curriculum and Instructional Development
- Interpret and implement national curricula and training packages
- Develop learning aids, training modules, and instructional materials
- Update training content to reflect industry trends and technologies
D. Learner Support and Mentorship
- Guide learners in career development and employability skills
- Provide academic and psychosocial support
- Monitor learner progress and provide feedback
- Promote discipline, professionalism, and ethical conduct
E. Industry Linkages and Practical Exposure
- Facilitate industrial training, internships, and apprenticeships
- Build partnerships with employers and industry stakeholders
- Ensure training aligns with labor market needs
F. Workshop/Training Environment Management
- Ensure proper use, maintenance, and safety of tools and equipment
- Enforce occupational health and safety standards
- Manage training resources and workshop organization
G. Monitoring, Evaluation, and Reporting
- Keep accurate training records (attendance, assessments, progress reports)
- Prepare periodic reports for institutional management and regulators
- Participate in institutional quality assurance processes
H. Compliance and Professional Development
- Ensure compliance with TVET Act 2025 regulations and institutional policies
- Participate in continuous professional development
- Stay updated with emerging technologies and teaching methodologies

ICT Trainer
- Teach computer applications, networking basics, and digital skills
- Support learners in software use, troubleshooting, and digital innovation
Catering & Hotel Management Trainer
- Train learners in food preparation, hygiene, customer service, and hospitality operations
- Emphasize food safety standards and service excellence
Electrical Installation & Maintenance Trainer
- Train learners in wiring systems, installation, fault diagnosis, and maintenance
- Ensure strict adherence to electrical safety standards and regulations
5. ETHICAL AND PROFESSIONAL STANDARDS
- Uphold integrity, professionalism, and fairness in training and assessment
- Maintain confidentiality of learner records
- Promote inclusivity, gender equity, and equal opportunity
- Act as a role model in skills, discipline, and work ethics
