Westnile Centre For Justice and Conciliation (WCJC) is a registered nonprofit making organization (CBO) in Arua city, Yumbe and Terego District that seeks to provide assistance to vulnerable people across Arua city, Yumbe and Terego at large by offering humanitarian, protection services and environmental protection programs such as health, legal, child protection, education, environment, water and sanitation, humanitarian and disability relief, climate change and natural disasters research and policy, assistance to victims of natural or manmade disasters, poverty alleviation, and women’s and children’s rights. We are dedicated to alleviating human suffering regardless of race, color, religion, or cultural background. The duties and responsibilities of a Legal Aid Volunteer may include:
Assisting lawyers and paralegals in the preparation of legal documents
Conducting legal research to support cases
Assisting clients in filling out legal forms and applications
Helping in client interviews to gather information and document case histories
Updating and maintaining accurate case files
Ensuring confidentiality and privacy of client information
Assisting in public legal education events, workshops, and clinics
Administrative duties such as answering phone calls, handling correspondence, and scheduling appointments
Attending court and file mediation reports in court.
Assisting in the development of legal outreach programs
Prepare mediation notices and secure appropriate date for mediation with the client.
Prepare the required reports for the center as per activities
Qualifications, Skills and Experience: The Legal Volunteers should hold Diploma/Certificate
Diploma/Certificate in Law from an accredited Institution.
Previous experience from Internship training/Clerkship with a Law Firm or legal aid service provider is an added advantage.
Proficiency in both Oral and Written English is essential and the local languages.
Knowledge of legal aid service provision in Uganda
Good writing skills
Good communication and presentation skills.
Dedication to working for and with the poor
Ability to mobilize communities for Outreach Sessions.
Proven team building skills.
