Job title: Academic Registrar (AR)
Reports to: Director – Programmes, Academics and Student Affairs (DPASA).
- Supervises/Responsible for/Direct Reports:
Assistant Registrars (Admissions & Administration), Student Affairs and Records Officer (Academic,) Students Registry Administrative Staff and other line staff.
- Salary: Attractive and Commensurate to the Role.
- Age: At least 30 Years Old.
- Duty Station:
- Johnass International College of Health Sciences, Main Campus in Njeru Municipality, Musoke Close, Off Naava/Paul Musoke Roads, Buikwe District, Near Owen Falls Dam on R. Nile.
- Job Purpose:
To provide efficient, accurate, secure, and compliant operational management of the Academic Registry, ensuring effective administration of student admissions, records, examinations, progression, certification, and academic scheduling.
- Role Scope:
The AR is the Chief Academic Administration and Records Officer. Thus the role of AR is operational and administrative in nature and as such, its supports the academic programmes, academics and students’ affairs strategy and quality assurance framework led by the DPASA.
- Key Duties and Responsibilities:
The Academic Registrar is responsible for;
- Academic Registry Operations Management.
- Admissions & Enrollment Administration.
- Examinations & Assessment Administration.
- Academic Records & Certification Management.
- Academic Policy Implementation.
- Academic Scheduling & Timetabling.
- Student Progression, Appeals & Academic Case Administration.
- Digital Registry & Student Information Management Systems.
- Leadership & Staff Management.
- Performing other assigned duties.
3.0. PERSONAL SPECIFICATIONS:
Academic and Professional Qualifications:
Either:
- A Master’s Degree in;
- Education (Options: Administration and Human Resource Management, Monitoring and Evaluation, Policy Planning and Management, Planning and Management, Other related Education Options);
- Health Professions Education (Options: Medical Education, Nursing, Midwifery, Medicine and/or Surgery, Medical Laboratory or any other Medical OR Health Professions Fields);
- Entrepreneurship or related fields;
- Management Studies;
- Public Administration,
- Business Administration;
- Strategic Planning;
- Engineering, Technology or Technological studies,
- Any of the field in the programmes taught at JOhNASS,
- Other Arts or Social Sciences or Community Development or related fields,
OR;
- A Postgraduate Diploma in any of the above fields.
Where one has the above Master’s Degree or Postgraduate Diploma, he/she must be qualified;
WITH;
- A Honors (or equivalent CGPA) Bachelor’s Degree in any of the above fields for all applicants, or in addition, for all health Professions, in accordance with this section 3.0 (1) (iv) below.
- For Clarity, all Health Professionals;
EITHER, He/She;
- Must have Advanced Tutors Diploma or Post Graduate Diploma in Medical Education in case he or she lacks a basic degree in Medical Education.
- For Must be registered and in possession of a valid Practicing License from Uganda Nurses and Midwives Council (For Nurses and Midwives) or Uganda Allied Health Professionals Council (Foe Allied Health professionals) or Uganda Medical and Dental Practitioners Council (For Medical Doctors) or Pharmaceutical Society of Uganda (For Pharmacists and those with other Pharmaceutical Qualifications).
OR, He/She who was awarded Advanced Diploma/Higher Diploma before 2002);
- Should have an Advanced or Higher Diploma in Nursing or Midwifery or any Allied Health field or Medical qualification or Minimum of a Diploma in Pharmaceutical field from a recognized University/Institution.
- Must have a qualification in Medical Education (Advanced Tutors Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Education or Post Graduate Diploma in Medical Education).
- Must also be registered and in possession of a valid Practicing License from the relevant Professional Body.
Any of the following is an added Advantage:
- a PhD or Doctorate in in any of the above fields.
- Formal training in quality assurance, or academic administration.
- Professional Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years’ Experience; in Either Teaching OR Supervisory Roles in a Tertiary, Higher Education Institution, a Project or Programme, OR in, Academic Training Research and Supervision of students; after Bachelor’s Degree.
- Demonstrated experience in the following is an added advantage:
- Teaching students.
- Admissions management.
- Examinations preparations, administration and management.
- Academic records management,
- Student Information Management Systems.
4.0. Competencies & Skills:
One should have good knowledge and Experience in the following:
