Background information about the job or company:

To plan, monitor and collect data from experiments to support research processes in a programme.

Responsibilities or duties:

  • Develop a field plan for conducting experiments on either the Institute’s research farm or on land belonging to farmers
  • Prepare materials such as measurement instruments, tools and other equipment for undertaking field experiments
  • Prepare the experimental plot, labelling each experimental block according to the field plan
  • Collect data, specimens and samples of insects and ticks from vegetation and farm animals at various experimental plots according to work-plan
  • Collect Preservation, identification of genera and species of insects and ticks to identify diseases they cause
  • Maintenance of ticks and tsetse colonies for insecticide, acaricide resistance sand sensitivity, testing and disease control
  • Application of inoculations, infestations and labelling according to field specifications
  • Conduct disease surveillance by visiting farmers to establish extent of disease and ticks outbreak
  • Participate in baseline surveys to determine farmer needs and production constraints as well as establish the impact of technology adoption

Qualifications or requirements:

  • A diploma in Animal Production
  • Bachelor’s degree Veterinary medicine or Animal production is an added advantage
