Job Purpose:

To assist the Accountant in maintaining accurate financial records, preparing financial reports and ensuring compliance with accounting standards and regulations.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Receive cash or bank cheques, record financial transactions, count money to verify amounts and issue receipts for funds received.
  • Record and compute total funds collected with amounts of currency in register to verify balances.
  • Prepare bank deposit slips in order to ensure that all collections are promptly banked in accordance with accounting procedures.
  • Compile, sorts and check payment instructions to ensure calculations are correct and supported by receipts and other accounting documents before posting details of financial transactions.
  • Receive monthly operational funds and ensures that the cheque is endorsed by authorised person before banking.
  • Disburse cash and writes vouchers and cheques in order to make payment against specified expenditures requisitions.
  • Prepare cheque payments and refund claims and ensures that payments are made against verifiable accounting documents.
  • Post data and balance accounts as well as compile collection, disbursements and bank reconciliation reports.
  • Reconcile the cashbook with bank statements and check balances against verifiable documents on a monthly basis.
  • Prepare monthly revenue, expenditure returns, financial statements and reports to voucher specified periods.
  • Provide support to Accountant in the preparation of reports on receipt and disbursements and accountability on all funds utilised.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the Director of Research and the designated supervisor.

Academic Qualifications and Experience:

Diploma in Business Studies, majoring in Accounting.

Possession of an Honors Degree in Accounting, Bachelor of Commerce or Business Administration majoring in Accounting is an added advantage.

Must have experience of at least three years (3) in a reputable organisation.
