Brookside Africa Limited, a leading market player in the dairy sector, with manufacturing facilities within the region, is seeking to recruit highly qualified, committed, motivated and experienced individuals for its subsidiary Brookside Limited. Brookside Limited, is the manufacturer of Fresh Dairy milk and milk products, a heritage brand in Uganda. Brookside’s vision is to be the market leader in East and Central Africa for milk and milk products and be the benchmark in the industry in Africa. Our operations are focused in the processing of safe quality milk and milk products that meets the customer requirements. As we continue to grow and uphold our commitment to excellence, we are looking for a highly motivated and experienced professional to join our Milk Procurement & Extension team in the following role:

Position: BCC Manager-Mbarara.

Department: Milk Procurement & Extension (MPE)

Reports To: Regional Head.

Role Purpose

Responsible for carrying out planning, organizing and coordinating field operations involving milk collection, chilling, transportation and maintaining hygienic conditions at the milk collection centers (MCCs) and Bulk Collection Centers (BCCs) according to Brookside Ltd Policies.

Key Result areas:

  • Carry out planning, organizing and coordinating field operations involving milk collection, chilling and transportation to the Kampala plant.
  • Ensuring the testing of raw milk, grading, chilling, transportation and maintaining hygienic conditions at the Milk Collection Centers (MCCs) and Bulk Collection Centre (BCC).
  • Ensuring that all equipment used in handling milk at the MCCs/BCC are maintained in a hygienic and sanitary manner in accordance to ISO requirements.
  • Creation and updating of a competitor’s profile clearly highlighting their names, cooler capacities, milk quantities received, price per liter of raw milk paid to farmers and the competitor’s market for the raw milk they collect on a weekly basis.
  • Liaising with the Head Milk Procurement and Manager Quality and Extension on the sensitization of farmers on clean milk production and productivity enhancement and on any technical problems that you may encounter.
  • Preparing weekly and monthly reports of your findings and action taken and submitting the same to your immediate supervisor.
  • Scout and recommend to the Head Milk Procurement areas with milk potential for the establishment of new MCCs or pick-up points in your area.
  • Ensure that the MCC’s/BCC have all the necessary consumable and equipment needed for the testing and maintenance of milk quality.
  • Carrying out any other duties as may be assigned to you from time to time by your immediate Supervisor

Minimum Qualifications and Experience:

Education:

Job holder must possess a degree in Agriculture with emphasis in Animal Husbandry or its equivalent or a degree in veterinary science or Degree in Dairy Husbandry and Milk processing from a reputable Universities.

Experience:

Minimum of 3-5 years in the field of extension activities while organizing farmers’ group or societies, training the farmers and supervision of primary societies etc.

Competencies/Abilities/Skills/Knowledge

  • Integrity.
  • Excellent communication skills-written and Verbal.
  • Ability to use initiative and to multi-task.
  • Ability to train, organize and coordinate.
  • Self-Motivated and result oriented.
