Job Purpose:
The Business Development Officer – Agency Channel is to support driving growth of the agency distribution channel by supporting the recruiting, training, and managing insurance agents, ensuring achievement of sales targets, and strengthening relationships with existing and new agents.
Key Responsibilities:
- Agency Recruitment & Onboarding
- Identify, recruit, and onboard new insurance agents to expand Britam’s agency network.
- Ensure all agents meet the regulatory and company requirements for licensing and training.
- Training & Development
- Conduct regular training sessions for agents on Britam’s products, sales techniques, compliance, and customer service.
- Provide ongoing coaching and mentorship to enhance agent productivity.
- Sales & Business Growth
- Set and monitor sales targets for agents to drive premium growth.
- Develop sales strategies and initiatives to increase market penetration in the agency channel.
- Support agents in prospecting and closing deals to achieve business targets.
- Support in the preparation of the Bids for Agents and ensure that these are delivered on time.
- Ensure timely payment of commissions and retainers due to the Financial Advisors are timely paid.
- Follow up on premium remittance & reconciliation for Financial Advisors’ generated businesses
- Relationship Management
- Build and maintain strong relationships with agents to ensure their motivation and commitment to Britam.
- Address agent concerns and challenges to foster loyalty and engagement.
- Compliance & Quality Control
- Ensure agents adhere to regulatory and company policies in their sales activities.
- Monitor the quality of business written to minimize lapses, fraud, and compliance risks.
- Market Intelligence & Reporting
- Gather and analyze market trends, competitor activities, and customer preferences to inform strategic decision-making.
- Prepare and submit regular sales performance reports and forecasts.
- Product Promotion & Customer Service
- Support agents in marketing Britam’s products through promotional activities and client engagement.
- Ensure excellent customer service by responding to client queries and resolving complaints in a timely manner.
Deliver on performance requirements as defined in the departments' strategy map, balance scorecard and personal scorecard.

Knowledge, experience and qualifications required
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Insurance, or a related field.
- Certification in Insurance (COP, Dip. In Insurance, or ACII) is an added advantage.
- Experience Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in business development, sales, or distribution management, preferably in the insurance or financial services industry.
- Proven track record of achieving sales targets and growing a distribution network.
- Experience in recruiting, training, and managing insurance agents is highly desirable.
- Strong knowledge of insurance products, industry trends, and regulatory requirements.
- Excellent sales and negotiation skills to drive business growth.
- Strong training and coaching skills to support agent development.
- Good understanding of market dynamics, competitor analysis, and business intelligence.
- Relationship management skills to build and maintain a high-performing agent network.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Result-oriented with a proactive approach to achieving business targets.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage with agents and clients.
- Problem-solving and decision-making abilities to address challenges in the agency channel.
- Team player with strong leadership skills to inspire and support agents.
- Adaptability and resilience in a dynamic and competitive business environment.
- Integrity and professionalism in handling sales and client interactions.
