War Child Holland (WCH) is an independent and impartial international non-governmental organization investing in a peaceful future for children and young people affected by armed conflict. WCH works in 14 Countries in the World to improve the resilience and well-being of children, delivering vital Child Protection, Education and Psychosocial Support interventions. War Child Holland has been operating in Uganda since 2004 in West Nile and Southwest Uganda.
War Child is looking for hardworking, dynamic and enthusiastic persons to fill the positions below;
Responsibilities or duties
The Communications and Grants Officer will be responsible for drafting, designing, publishing, and disseminating high-quality projects and grants communication materials. The role will manage War Child social media platforms, coordinate webinars and virtual events, support graphic designs, and ensure effective use of the grants management portal by creating accounts, registering opportunities, generating reports and obtaining online approvals in the system.
Major roles and responsibilities;
1. Development and publication of content
- Draft, design, review, edit and publish project communication and grants materials including agreements, reports, success stories, case studies, newsletters, briefs, positions, and website content.
- Ensure accuracy and alignment of all communication and grants documents to organizational branding, visibility and donor guidelines.
- Liaise and coordinate content collection from program technical leads, MEAL and partners, including quality photos, videos, quotes, and impact stories.
- Disseminate approved communication and grants materials to staff, partners and other external stakeholders.
2. Manage the WC Online Partnership and Grants Salesforce/Rafiki Portal
- Create accounts and opportunities for new grant opportunities
- Upload assorted documents to Rafiki Portal (salesforce)
- Update SharePoint for wider sharing and access of all communications and grants documents within War Child.
- Conduct regular update on statuses of all opportunities, grants and projects in the online grants management system (Rafiki).
- Generate reports from the system for progress performance updates and annual reporting.
3. Carry out content graphic designs, branding and visibility
- Design captivating visual communication materials like infographics, flyers, posters, social media graphics, banners, presentations, reports, and newsletters.
- Ensure accuracy and consistency in the application of War Child branding, visual identity, and donor visibility requirements.
- Provide basic photo and video edits, including anonymity for digital and social media use.
4. Social Media Management and Engagement
- Update and operate War Child social media handles like YouTube, X, LinkedIn, and Instagram.
- Convene and participate in social media campaigns
- Monitor social media engagements, carry out performance analysis, market the organisational brand and respond to inquiries or provide feedback to stakeholders.
- Provide impactful content to all social media handles in collaboration with technical leads and project implementing teams.
- Ensure accurate, responsible, ethical, and safeguarding-compliant use of social media content.
- Organise and participate in webinars for shared learning of War Child interventions in MHPSS, Education, Child Protection and Youth Empowerment
Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)
Experience needed
Minimum of 3 years of work experience preferably within humanitarian or development sector.

- Outstanding skills in graphic design using tools such as Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator), Canva, or equivalent.
- Demonstrated experience in content writing, editing, and digital publishing.
- Proven experience managing social media platforms for organizations or projects.
- Practical experience using Salesforce or similar systems.
- Relationship-building, diplomacy and networking skills.
- Politically and culturally sensitive with qualities of patience, tact and empathy
- Ability to work well under pressure with diverse teams from all backgrounds and level
- Proactive and able to work independently with minimal supervision
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Knowledge of and experience in humanitarian programmes in Uganda.
