The Research Assistant will support the health economics component of the IPTsc trial among school-aged children in Uganda. Under the supervision of the Health Economist, the Costing Research Assistant will be responsible for on-the-ground collection, cleaning, and synthesis of cost data, working closely with Study Coordinators, Data Managers, and community staff. They will also contribute to the development of data collection tools and assist in training other study staff on their use. This role provides an excellent learning opportunity for an early-career researcher interested in health economics and economic evaluation.

Job Description 
1.    Contribute to the development and refinement of cost data collection tools under the guidance of the Health Economist.
2.    Assist in training study staff on the use of cost data collection tools.
3.    Collect cost data through record review, interviews with clinic and community staff, and completion of observation checklists.
4.    Process, clean, and synthesize cost data to prepare it for analysis.
5.    Assist in organizing, filing, and archiving study forms; support report generation in collaboration with study coordinators and the data management team.
6.    Maintain confidentiality of records and research findings.
7.    Participate in regular team meetings and contribute to problem-solving and coordination.
8.    Support communication and coordination with field teams to ensure timely data collection and reporting.
     
Key Result Areas/Outputs  
1.    Cost data collection tools piloted and in use.
2.    Field staff trained on the use of costing tools.
3.    Cleaned and well-organized cost datasets ready for analysis.
4.    Accurate documentation and filing of all costing tools.
5.    Timely field reports and updates on cost data collection progress.
6.    Contribution to interim and final costing reports for the trial.
7.    Active participation in team discussions to ensure quality and completeness of the economic evaluation component.

Qualification Required

Qualifications and other desirables for the job 
1.    Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Statistics, Public Health, or a related field from a recognized institution.
2.    Ability and willingness to travel frequently to study sites. 
3.    Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to learn quickly.
4.    Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.
5.    Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team and in a fast-paced environment.
7.    Familiarity with statistical/econometric software such as Stata or R.
8.    High levels of flexibility, confidentiality, and integrity.
9.    Prior experience with costing, health economics, or health systems research is an added advantage.
10.    Must have valid GCP and HSP certificates
