Scope of work
Under the direct supervision of the Fleet and Admin Assistant, the Full time Driver will provide transportation support to the Adjumani and Palorinya field offices including settlements within the location as well as transporting staff and any other IRC Beneficiaries to and from the IRC Offices and various locations.
Responsibilities or duties
Duties and responsibilities
- Inspect and record the condition of the vehicle on a daily basis as well as preparing the weekly maintenance checklist.
- Ensure timely servicing and maintenance of IRC vehicles (Required to complete service request forms and maintain vehicle service records for reference). Ensuring to report to the Supervisor and or Head Driver on any mechanical problems.
- Ensure vehicles are properly Insured and all legal documents are in order at all times; Inform your supervisor or Head Driver three weeks in advance of any renewals due (i.e. insurance, road license, etc.).
- Conduct daily assessments of road conditions and security situation within the specified location.
- Drive IRC program staff in a safe and courteous manner to field sites across the district.
- Deliver mail/messages and any other correspondences as directed.
- Operate HF and VHF mobile radio equipment.
- Maintain general and consistent cleanliness of interior/exterior of vehicle.
- Give accurate fuel reconciliation within the given period.
- Always Obey IRC vehicle policy and operating procedures (use of logbook, no drinking and driving, signing out vehicle on vehicle registry and so on).
- Assist the Supervisor and or Head Driver in loading cargo for road/air transport.
- Assist with other duties as assigned by the supervisor(s).
Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)
Job Requirements and Competencies
- Minimum O− Level Certificate; A− Level Certificate an added advantage
- Valid driver’s license with classes “A, B, CM,CH,DL and DM.” Hard copy to be presented if one is invited for interviews. Any additional Driving/Defensive Driving certifications are a bonus.
- Good driving record, Minimum four years driving experience with NGO experience (Is an added advantage)
- Knowledge of Codan radio equipment
- Fluent in English, Kiswahili and local languages
- Skills and knowledge of vehicle mechanics are preferred.
- Strong interpersonal and team-building skills.
- As the role requires significant travels to the field, flexibility to travel to different project field locations and work under pressure is key.
