Position Summary

Working under the supervision of the Regional Finance Director-Africa and in coordination with the Country Director. The finance manager is responsible for managing finance and Supply Chain functions; supervising the finance and the supply Chain team within the country program, following established policies and procedures. This position requires a person near Jinja (or move near Jinja), where the office is located.

Responsibilities or duties

A successful Finance Manager will:

  • Maintain a strong Christian witness and model servant leadership to colleagues, partners, the communities we serve, and the public.
  • Support payroll preparation in collaboration with the payroll approvers and the Global Payroll team at the US headquarters.
  • Supervise and support Finance and Supply Chain staff by providing guidance, performance oversight, coaching, and capacity building to strengthen operational efficiency and professional development.
  • Oversee financial operations, including invoice processing, payment approvals, petty cash management, banking activities, and financial reporting, ensuring compliance with established policies, procedures, donor requirements, internal controls and government regulations.
  • Provide oversight of procurement, inventory management, vendor management, and supply chain processes to ensure transparency, value for money, timely delivery of goods and services, and compliance with procurement policies and procedures.
  • Lead the implementation, communication, standardization, and enforcement of finance, procurement, inventory, and internal control policies and procedures across the country program.
  • Ensure periodic compliance and audit reviews are conducted within both Finance and Supply Chain functions, with findings documented, corrective actions implemented, and performance improvements monitored.
  • Oversee accurate accounting and inventory records in NetSuite, including timely bank reconciliations, inventory reconciliations and regular stock counts, cash counts, and supporting documentation reviews to ensure that the accuracy, completeness, and validity of all balance sheet accounts.
  • Manage the preparation and review of monthly financial reports, donor/partner reports, procurement reports, inventory reports, and other management reports required for operational and strategic decision-making.
  • Lead cash flow management activities by reviewing cash positions, budget variances, funding requirements, and fund balances, and preparing the monthly funding requests.
  • Provide strategic guidance and operational support to country program staff, and management on financial management, procurement planning, inventory controls, compliance requirements, and risk mitigation.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with Africa Regional staff, WMU program teams, vendors, financial institutions, government entities, and US headquarters finance and procurement teams.
  • Lead annual budgeting, forecasting, and monthly review of budget against actual cost in collaboration with management and program leadership.
  • Oversee internal and external audits for both Finance and Supply Chain functions, including coordination of audit requirements, review of findings, implementation of corrective actions, and communication with auditors and regulatory authorities.
  • Promote strong internal controls, segregation of duties, ethical practices, accountability, and continuous improvement within Finance and Supply Chain operations.
  • Other duties as assigned by the supervisor(s).

Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)

What is required?

  • Personal and growing relationship with Jesus Christ.
  • Alignment with Water Mission’s Statement of Faith and core values of Love, Excellence, and Integrity.
  • Impeccable level of integrity in handling funds in an accountable and transparent manner.
  • Fluent in English.
  • University degree in accounting or finance is required.
  • Must possess a professional accounting certification such as ACCA, CPA (U), or an equivalent recognized accounting qualification
  • Master’s degree in business administration, Accounting, or a similar field will be a plus.
  • In-depth experience in all accounting and financial management areas with strong technical knowledge of International (GAAP, IPSAS), local financial reporting standards, and compliances.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including articulating ideas and feedback constructively.
  • Advanced skills with MS Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, and SharePoint) and familiarity with financial and accounting information systems.
  • A knowledge of leadership, mentoring, management, analytical and organizational skills demonstrated by the ability to work independently and within a team, assess priorities, and manage various activities with attention to detail.
  • Understanding the principles of adequate documentation and audit and the procedures necessary to ensure audit compliance.
  • Excellent analytical skills.
  • Excellent relationship and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with a team.

  • At least four years of experience in financial management.
