Job Summary

We are supporting our client in the recruitment of a Finance Officer who will be responsible for managing the full spectrum of financial operations. This role involves preparing financial statements, overseeing month-end and year-end closings, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards and tax regulations.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in line with accounting standards and internal policies.
  • Ensure timely and accurate month-end and year-end closings.
  • Review journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting schedules prepared by junior staff.
  • Supervise daily activities accounting team members, providing guidance and support.
  • Review work for accuracy and compliance, ensuring timely completion of tasks.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and assist with training and development
  • Preparing the annual budget and periodic forecasts.
  • Monitor budget variances and provide commentary and recommendations for corrective action.
  • Oversee the processing of invoices, payments, and receipts to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
  • Monitor aging reports and follow up on overdue receivables with clients or the commercial team.
  • Review vendor and customer reconciliations performed by staff
  • Ensure timely filing of tax returns (Income tax, withholding tax, paye, import/export duties).
  • Assist with internal and external audits, and ensure full compliance with local laws and regulations
  • Maintain and improve internal financial controls and accounting procedures.
  • Identify process inefficiencies and suggest system or workflow improvements.
  • Coordinate with logistics, operations, procurement, and customer service departments for financial insights and support.
  • Participate in strategic planning meetings to provide financial input on business decisions
  • Prepare monthly bank reconciliation reports.
  • Ensure proper filing of all financial records and documents of the office e.g. invoices, paid in bank deposit slips, work plans, used receipt books etc.
  • Maintain up-to-date staff lists to avoid errors during payments of allowances and wages.
  • Carry out any other duties as may be assigned.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or any other related field.
  • CPA Level 2 / ACCA Level 2
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in accounting/finance
  • Experience with financial reporting requirements
  • Knowledge of the Wave accounting system is an added advantage
  • Knowledge of Uganda tax laws.
