We are seeking a dynamic and dedicated Livelihoods Officer to join our E-Mobility Green Jobs Initiative in Kampala. This role is pivotal in supporting communities transitioning from fossil-fuel transport to e-mobility, ensuring economic inclusion and sustainability. The Livelihoods Officer will design and implement programs that provide vocational training, support small businesses, and integrate carbon credit benefits into livelihood strategies.

We are present in around 20 countries and work on long-term aid efforts to combat poverty, with a focus on livelihoods and food and nutrition security, health, education, and water and sanitation. We also operate in fragile states and conflicts and provide emergency humanitarian assistance.
Your main responsibilities will include:
- Transition Support for ICE Riders:
- Develop and implement programs to help ICE motorcycle riders shift to e-bikes.
- Provide training on e-bike usage, maintenance, and financial benefits.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure affordable access to e-bikes.
- Support financing models linked to carbon credit earnings, enabling affordable access to electric motorcycles. Co-create community-focused financial models for reinvesting carbon savings into local development projects.
- Waste-to-Wealth Initiatives:
- Partner with training institutions to provide certification and job placement support.
- Identify opportunities to repurpose motorcycle waste into valuable products.
- Work with vulnerable groups to create sustainable business models around waste recycling.
- Partner with environmental organizations to ensure compliance with sustainability standards.
- Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLA) & Financial Access:
- Support riders in establishing VSLA groups for financial security.
- Facilitate access to microfinance, grants, and investment opportunities.
- Provide financial literacy training to ensure responsible fund management.
- Incubation Hub Development:
- Ensure the incubation hub is well-equipped with necessary resources.
- Work alongside the Manager of the Incubation Hub to create a viable business plan.
- Foster partnerships with investors, NGOs, and government agencies to sustain the hub.
- Community Engagement & Policy Advocacy:
- Drive awareness campaigns ensuring equitable access to e-mobility solutions in underserved areas.
- Advocate for inclusive policies to accelerate e-mobility adoption.
- Foster partnerships with government, industry, and communities to maximize sustainable impact.
Essential Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in development studies, Economics, Business, or Social Sciences.
- Experience in the private sector livelihoods programming, economic empowerment, with at least 4 years minimum experience.
- Experience in financial inclusion, savings and loans associations, micro-financing for small and medium enterprises, and business enterprise development for community programs.
- Strong skills in stakeholder engagement, training, and advocacy.
- Open to all from diploma onwards
Desirable Qualifications:
- Master's degree in a relevant field.
- Experience in E-mobility and green livelihoods is an added advantage
