The overall purpose of the role:

The MEAL Intern will support the implementation of Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL) activities at field level. He/she will gain practical experience in data collection, data quality assurance, reporting, accountability mechanisms, and basic data analysis while supporting project teams to track progress and improve program quality.

Your main duties and responsibilities will be:

  • Support routine field data collection activities using digital tools such as KoboCollect.
  • Assist in conducting assessments, surveys, post-distribution monitoring.
  • Participate in spot checks and routine data quality checks in the field.
  • Assist in data entry, cleaning, compilation, and basic analysis using Excel or other data tools.
  • Support preparation of weekly, monthly, and activity reports.
  • Maintain organized filing systems for MEAL tools, reports, attendance sheets, and monitoring documents.
  • Support collection and documentation of beneficiary feedback and complaints through established accountability channels.
  • Support community feedback sessions.
  • Participate in field monitoring visits and learning activities.
  • Support documentation of success stories, lessons learned, and good practices.
  • Assist in logistics preparation for MEAL activities including attendance tracking and tool preparation.
  • Perform any other MEAL-related duties assigned by the supervisor.

About you

To be successful in this role, you should have basic understanding of monitoring and evaluation concepts. Moreover, we also expect the following.

Required

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Economics, Social Sciences, Development Studies, Information Management, Data Science, Monitoring & Evaluation.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to adhere to the DRC’s values and ethical standards.
  • Ability to promote the vision, mission, and strategic goals of the DRC Uganda Program.
  • Ability to display cultural, gender, religion, race, nationality and age sensitivity and adaptability.
  • Strong willingness to learn and work in field environments.
  • Fluency in both written & spoken English.
  • Ability to approach work with energy and a positive, constructive attitude.
  • Good communication skills and ability to display sensitivity, responsiveness to all partners and maintain respectful and helpful relations with donors and project staff.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of local languages spoken in refugee communities.
