Reports To: Manager Monitoring & Recoveries.
Duty Station: Head Office.

JOB PURPOSE:
Monitoring & Recoveries Officer will be responsible for effective monitoring of the Bank's credit portfolio and the recovery of delinquent and non-performing facilities through identifying emerging credit risks, monitoring overdue accounts, coordinating recovery actions, safeguarding the Bank's security interests and minimizing credit losses while ensuring compliance with internal policies and regulatory requirements.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Monitor the Bank’s loan portfolio, including overdrafts, excesses, loan arrears and the identified delinquent accounts, watch and non-performing accounts in the portfolio and ensure prompt follow-up and regularization of the outstanding obligations
  • Identify early warning signals, establish the causes of default and recommend appropriate recovery strategies and escalation measures to mitigate further credit deterioration.
  • Monitor compliance with approved facility terms, repayment schedules, covenants and other credit conditions, and promptly escalate breaches and emerging credit risks.
  • Engage Customers in the identified portfolio through calls, correspondences, meetings and field/site visits where appropriate to establish the status/performance of their businesses and the financed assets.
  • Monitor the adequacy, existence, condition and enforceability of the collateral and other securities, identifying and escalating any deficiencies that may compromise the Bank’s ability to enforce or realize its securities
  • Prepare and issue demand notices, notice of default, notice of sale and other recovery correspondences in accordance with Bank policies, procedures and applicable laws.
  • Maintain and regularly update a demand notice tracker to monitor the status and expiry of served demand notices and ensure that subsequent notices are issued and served promptly when due.
  • Coordinate and monitor recovery actions, including collateral realization, disposal of secured assets and other enforcement measures to maximize recoveries and minimize losses through timely escalation of unresolved cases.
  • Liaise with the empaneled external advocates and monitor their performance and progress in respect of assigned recovery matters, including legal proceedings, enforcement actions and collateral realization.
  • Monitor progress of litigation and other legal recovery proceedings, maintain up-to-date records of cases and execution actions, and ensure timely escalation and follow-up of unresolved matters.
  • Prepare and update the weekly recovery cases and monthly portfolio monitoring report (s), highlighting delinquency trends, recovery performance, overall portfolio performance, significant exposures, emerging risks and recommended recovery actions for Management.
  • Ensure all recovery activities are conducted in compliance with the Bank's Credit Policy, recovery procedures, applicable laws, regulatory requirements and internal controls.
  • Ensure that all Recovery files for accounts classified as watchlist, non-performing and written off are updated promptly and that all recovery correspondences with customers are properly maintained and updated in accordance with the Bank’s policies and procedures.
  • Perform any other duties assigned to you from time to time by your line manager.

KEY ATTRIBUTES.

  • Strong skills in Credit monitoring, portfolio management and account performance analysis
  • Proficiency in Debt recovery, collections and delinquency management
  • Sound knowledge of lending products, credit assessment and credit risk management.
  • Good understanding of security documentation, collateral management and realization processes.
  • Familiarity with applicable banking laws, regulatory requirements and debt recovery procedures.
  • Strong report writing and analytical skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, word and relevant banking and credit management systems.

REQUIREMENTS.

  • Bachelor's degree in Law, Banking, Finance, Business Administration, Accounting, Economics or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in credit monitoring, debt recovery, collections, credit administration, recoveries, or related banking operations.
  • Certification in Credit Management, Debt Recovery, Risk Management, or related discipline.
