Description
Protea Hotel by Marriott Kampala Skyz is seeking a highly competent, detail-oriented, and operationally mature Night Auditor. This is a critical leadership-support role designed for a professional who views the overnight shift as a period of rigorous financial reconciliation and operational excellence.
This is not a junior reception role. As the primary overnight custodian of the hotel’s financial and operational integrity, you will ensure the complete accuracy of all daily revenue transactions, the balancing of sophisticated operating systems, and unwavering adherence to Marriott brand standards. The ideal candidate possesses a rare blend of financial acumen, hotel systems expertise, and the confidence to manage a complex, full-service branded environment independently.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Night Audit & Financial Close
- Conduct a comprehensive nightly audit of revenue streams across Rooms, F&B, Banqueting, Spa, Gym, and ancillary departments.
- Reconcile the Opera PMS trial balance against Micros/POS postings, credit card settlements, cash floats, mobile money, and city ledgers.
- Ensure all overnight system interfaces post correctly and resolve discrepancies before the end-of-shift close.
- Execute Night Audit procedures in Opera PMS according to Marriott SOPs and distribute Daily Flash Reports to management.
Revenue Control & Audit Compliance
- Audit all daily voids, discounts, rebates, and allowances, verifying management approvals and supporting documentation.
- Identify and investigate unusual posting patterns or potential fraud indicators.
- Ensure all cashier closures are completed correctly and flag any control weaknesses or missing documentation immediately.
Front Office Operations
- Act as the senior operational representative during the night shift, overseeing the front desk and guest services.
- Manage late check-ins, early departures, billing disputes, and emergency guest situations with professional composure.
- Support overnight concierge, security, and duty operations to uphold Marriott’s service promise.
Reporting & Communication
- Prepare the Daily Revenue Report, Occupancy/RevPAR summaries, and detailed handover notes for the morning management team.
- Escalate critical incidents, including major revenue discrepancies, system outages, or security concerns, without delay.
Key Objectives
- Precision: Execute the accurate and timely closure of the hotel’s daily trading cycle.
- Reconciliation: Manage full synchronization between Opera PMS, POS systems, banking, and revenue interfaces.
- Integrity: Safeguard the accuracy of all revenue and payment postings.
- Compliance: Maintain strict adherence to internal audit and Marriott International standards.
- Leadership: Ensure seamless overnight front office operations and proactive guest service.
- Vigilance: Provide immediate escalation of control breaches, variances, or operational risks.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
Essential Experience
- Tenure: 3–5 years of experience in hotel front office, income audit, or accounts receivable.
- Specialization: At least 2 years specifically in a Night Auditor role within a reputable 4-star or 5-star hotel.
- Background: Prior experience in an internationally branded hotel (Marriott systems experience is a significant advantage).
- Environment: Proven success in a high-volume, multi-outlet hotel environment.
- Advanced Opera PMS proficiency is essential.
- Deep understanding of hotel revenue accounting, cashiering controls, and guest ledger/city ledger reconciliation.
- Experience with Micros POS / Simphony and advanced Excel skills for financial reporting.
- Detail-Obsessed: A meticulous eye for data accuracy and reconciliation.
- Principled: High integrity with the assertiveness to enforce controls and challenge discrepancies.
- Independent: Capable of making critical decisions under pressure with minimal supervision.
Critical Success Factors
To succeed in this role, you must demonstrate the ability to protect hotel revenue through disciplined audit controls while serving as the “Manager on Duty” for guest matters.
We are seeking a professional who understands that the Night Audit is the heartbeat of the hotel’s financial health.
Note: Kenyans, Rwandans or Tanzanians are encouraged to apply
Note to Applicants: We are specifically seeking experienced Night Audit professionals from internationally branded or large-scale upscale hotels.
