Job Summary:
To provide comprehensive, high-quality primary and secondary eye care services through assessment, diagnosis, treatment, management and referral of patients with ocular diseases, while contributing to the achievement of departmental clinical, operational, teaching, outreach, quality improvement and revenue objectives
Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive ophthalmic history taking and eye examinations.
- Diagnose and manage common ocular diseases and conditions within the scope of practice and Prescribe appropriate medications and treatment plans.
- Perform basic orthoptic and squint (strabismus) assessments, including ocular alignment and binocular vision assessment, within the scope of practice.
- Conduct post-operative reviews and follow-up clinics.
- Supervising other clinicians and other eye care team in the department AS ABOVE
- Maintaining professional standards by providing guidance to other clinicians
- Ensure proper documentation in the patient's medical records.
- Observe infection prevention and control measures.
- Convert appropriate patients to surgical services.
- Support growth of outreach services.
- In service teaching/training of Interns and nurses
Position requirements (Job and Person specifications)
- Diploma In Clinical Ophthalmology from an accredited Institution
- A minimum of 2 years of experience in similar role
- Basic knowledge of orthoptics and squint (strabismus) assessment is an added advantage.
- Candidates without prior experience must demonstrate the willingness and ability to undergo training and attain competency in squint assessment and management.
- Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines and targets
- Excellent customer service skills
- Ability to interact with customers in a friendly, patient, and helpful manner.
- Attention to detail
- Basic computer skills and ability to use software to manage patient information.
