Job Purpose
To provide safe, accurate, and efficient dispensing of prescription and over-the-counter (OTC) medicines while delivering excellent customer service. The Pharmacy Dispenser supports the pharmacist in ensuring compliance with pharmaceutical regulations, maintaining inventory, and promoting the rational use of medicines.
Key Responsibilities
Dispensing Services
- Receive and accurately process prescriptions under the supervision of a registered pharmacist.
- Dispense prescription and OTC medicines according to approved pharmacy procedures.
- Count, package, label, and prepare medicines for dispensing.
- Verify prescriptions for completeness and refer any discrepancies to the pharmacist.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and accurate dispensing records.
Customer Care
- Explain dosage instructions, storage requirements, and medicine administration as directed by the pharmacist.
- Provide courteous and professional customer service.
- Respond to customer inquiries and refer clinical questions to the pharmacist.
- Promote adherence to prescribed treatment and provide information on proper medicine use.
Inventory Management
- Monitor stock levels and report low-stock items.
- Receive, inspect, and record pharmaceutical deliveries.
- Arrange medicines according to pharmacy standards.
- Monitor expiry dates and remove expired or damaged stock.
- Participate in stock counts and inventory reconciliation.
Sales and Cash Handling
- Process customer payments accurately.
- Issue receipts and maintain accurate sales records.
- Promote approved pharmacy products, wellness items, and healthcare services.
- Assist in achieving pharmacy sales targets while maintaining ethical dispensing practices.
Compliance and Quality Assurance
- Follow Good Pharmacy Practice (GPP) guidelines and pharmacy standard operating procedures.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the dispensary.
- Ensure proper storage of medicines according to manufacturer and regulatory requirements.
- Report medication errors, damaged products, or adverse incidents promptly.
- Support compliance with regulatory inspections and documentation requirements.
Qualifications
- Diploma in Pharmacy or Pharmacy Technician qualification from a recognized institution.
- Valid registration or licensing with the relevant pharmacy regulatory authority, where applicable.
- At least 1–2 years of experience in a retail or hospital pharmacy is an advantage.
- Experience using pharmacy management software is desirable.
