Introduction
Kanaama Microcredit Services (KIMC) is a profit-making entity under Kanaama Interactive Community Support (KICS). KIMC programme was established in 2010 with the aim of supporting the women in Kashare sub-county to move themselves out of poverty through starting micro-businesses. KIMC's major goal is to facilitate transformational development and alleviate poverty through promoting micro-enterprise development of women by providing needed financial services. In this respect, the programme offers micro finance services including group loans, business training and advisory services among others. The programme wishes to recruit a skilled Portfolio Officer to undertake portfolio management to ensure the achievement of its goal and objectives.
Job Description
The purpose of this job is to effectively and efficiently manage Kanaama Microcredit Services (KIMC) programme, its loan portfolio and ensure the micro/small loans provided for business start-up and business development have a demonstrated positive impact on the livelihoods of clients and their families. The Portfolio Officer will assist the Programme Manager on all aspects of the programme.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and Finance, Business Administration, Micro finance and Small Business Management, or related from a recognised university.
- 2-3 years of experience in loan management and credit operations.
- Experience working in dynamic loan recovery environment.
- Technical Knowledge: Understanding of portfolio management processes and key performance indicators.
- Training in microcredit operations is an added advantage.
Skills and qualities:
- Strong analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Good computer skills, especially in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills.
- Fluency in English and Runyankore/Rukiga is required.
- Identify and assess all new KIMC clients for enrolment into the project and assess those applying to take out a new loan on agreed criteria.
- Arrange training in business management, business planning and budgeting, and provide business advisory support to women entrepreneurs on maximising the benefit of their loans in the targeted areas.
- Assess, verify, review, keep records and ensure all loan documents required to secure loans are in place, complete, accurate and in safe custody as required by the KIMC operations manual and the regulating authority.
- Appraise loans, and subsequent loan documents and recommend on disbursement to the loans committee based on expected profit margins and business income within different timeframes, and the ability of the client to make repayments.
- Arrange methodology of mobile loan recovery, and or other repayment options to ensure loan recovery/payments are done timely.
- Monitor all possible and actual delinquency issues, document reasons, and design appropriate response handling processes.
- Regularly and in a timely way update and post loan repayments and disbursements into the KIMC IT system, reconcile with collection sheets and repayment bank deposits as a prerequisite for posting loan collection transactions.
- Develop and implement mechanisms of managing late payments and arrears to always ensure healthy portfolio performance.
- Coordinate and take lead in ensuring loan application deadlines and disbursement targets are adhered to and inform clients about the set lending timeframes.
- Maintain good customer relations and customer grievance handling, handle customer complaints and in consultation with the Programme Manager, take appropriate actions to resolve them.
- Work with the Finance and Administration Officer to analyse, create and submit periodic monthly, quarterly and annual portfolio statistical and narrative reports.
- Travel to field as necessary to support clients and their business enterprises.
