Introduction

Kanaama Interactive Community Support (KICS) is a registered charity operating in Mbarara district whose vision is to transform rural households into prosperous and enlightened ones, where livelihoods thrive. KICS has been in operation since 2010 and majorly runs community development interventions categorized under livelihood and education programmes. KICS has recently secured funding for a two-year integrated project focusing on adult literacy, smart agriculture and business development (LAB) in Kagongi Sub County and therefore, requires a skilled and proactive Project Officer to support successful implementation.

Job Description

The role involves coordinating activities, ensuring effective training delivery, mobilising communities, and monitoring progress towards project goals. The Project Officer will work closely with the Adult Literacy Educator, Agriculture Extension Officer, facilitators, Parish Agribusiness trainers and local stakeholders to empower poor women with literacy, agricultural, and business skills for sustainable socio-economic transformation.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in any Social Sciences course from a recognised university.
  • 1-2 years of experience in community development, agri-business training or related fields.
  • Strong facilitation, training, and community mobilisation skills with experience working in rural communities.
  • Experience working in sectoral areas such as Agriculture, Small business, and Livelihoods.
  • Training in agri-business operations is an added advantage.

Skills and Qualities:

  • Excellent report writing, data collection, and documentation skills.
  • Adaptability: ability to live and work in rural areas.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft suite, especially Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong interpersonal, networking, and teamwork skills, with commitment to gender equality and women’s empowerment.
  • Fluency in English and Runyankore/Rukiga (local language) is required.
  • Motorbike riding skills is a must.

  • Take the lead in scheduling, implementation, and reporting of project activities under literacy, Agriculture, business development, and VSLA components.
  • Mobilise and engage communities, stakeholders, and beneficiaries to ensure effective participation and ownership of the LAB project.
  • Provide technical support in the design and delivery of business training sessions, entrepreneurship development, and financial literacy workshops.
  • Support the appraisal, assessment, and monitoring of business plans developed by women beneficiaries, ensuring transparent funds disbursement, utilisation and recovery.
  • Work with the Adult Literacy Educator and Agriculture Extension Officer to integrate project components and achieve cross-cutting outcomes by tracking the project’s key performance indicators.
  • Take lead in documenting and submitting periodic projects' narrative reports (including activity, training, quarterly and annual reports).
  • Work with the MEAL officer to plan and conduct routine monitoring visits, gather beneficiary feedback, document project progress, success stories, and lessons learned to inform decision making.
  • Facilitate linkages with local government, NGOs, and private sector actors in Kagongi Sub County for technical and market support to the project beneficiaries.
  • Ensure adherence to donor requirements, organisational policies, safeguarding, and accountability standards.
