On behalf of our client in the renewable energy sector, we are looking for competent, skilled, and experienced Compliance Officer to work in Kampala.

Our client is a leading Oil Marketing Company with a vibrant Aviation, Retail, Exports and Commercial business segments. The Compliance Officer will report to the General Manager and the Head of Internal Audit & Compliance.

Job Purpose

The Compliance Officer will oversee the implementation of robust compliance programs across the company with a key focus on retail station activities and, occasionally finance and marketing. The role involves risk assessment, internal auditing and staff training across retail outlets to enhance compliance with laws, company policy and industry best-practice. In addition, the jobholder will monitor regulatory developments affecting the oil and gas industry and advise management accordingly.

Detailed Job Description:

 

The successful candidate will:

  • Prepare an Annual Compliance Plan outlining key compliance risks, planned monitoring activities, staff training and reporting to senior management. 
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate compliance-related risks especially those arising from transportation of petroleum products, storage, daily tank dips, shift closure, cash sales, credit sales, banking and expenses.
  • Review and reconcile station inventory, sales, cash and receivable balances.
  • Collaborate with other departments (Finance, Marketing and HR) to integrate compliance into daily operations.
  • Conduct periodic compliance audits and internal investigations to detect and address violations.
  • Maintain records of compliance activities and prepare regular reports for senior managementclearly describing non-compliances and remedial action.
  • Evaluate existing financial policies and procedures and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Develop and implement policies, procedures and codes of conduct.
  • Perform discreet investigations and special audits as requested by the Management.
  • Perform any other tasks/duties from time to time as may be assigned by the Management.

 

Requirements

Educational & Professional qualifications

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Economics or a related field.
  • Professional qualifications such as CPA, ACCA, CISA.
  • At least 3 years’ audit experience in an audit firm or a reputable organization.
  • Oil industry experience will be an added advantage.
  • Proficiency in MS-Office.

The successful candidate should possess the following attributes:

  • High standard of integrity and ethical practice.
  • Ability to plan work assignments, prioritize tasks and deliver on deadlines.
  •    This job involves daily travel to different company outlets and the successful candidate should be have self-drive, self-motivation and willingness to travel at short notice.
  • Good skills in data analysis, audit & investigations and an eye for detail.
  • Good interpersonal, communication and report writing skills.
