Background
Makerere University has received funding from the Governments of Uganda and South Korea to implement the Improvement of Makerere University Project. Makerere University invites applications from suitably qualified candidates for the various project staff positions.
Qualifications
a) An honors bachelor’s degree in Quantity Surveying
Other requirements
b) Practical experience in quantity surveying practice or related duties in a public or private institution.
c) Experience in the use of ICT project planning tools like Primvera, MS Project, or equivalent.
Experience
At least eight (8) years, 3 of which should be as a registered Surveyor with the Surveyor’s Registration Board (SRB)
Roles and Responsibilities
Role: Manage all quantity surveying work for the project.
Responsibilities
- Review bills of quantities, specifications, and payment certificates.
- Check the progress of the works as presented by the contractor and consultant using the Earned Value Methodology.
- Monitor services performed by the contractors and supervision consultants.
- Undertake regular site visits, participate in monthly site meetings, and provide detailed reporting.
- Check regular disbursement schedules for construction works.
- Verify any claims made by the contractors.
- Carry out appraisals on the work and do value engineering to determine where funds can be utilized for better project delivery.
- Check payment certificates for contractors and consultants.
- Submit timely reports to the Supervisor
Competencies
- Good Communication, leadership and interpersonal skills;
- Proficient in using relevant computer packages;
- Teamwork and team building;
- High integrity
Additional Notes
Applicants must be Ugandans.
Applicants for all positions must not exceed 55 years of age at the time of application.
Academic qualifications must be from recognized academic institutions.

Terms of employment will be on a contract basis of 2 years.
