As an educator and role model, RPS Teacher is expected to set a good example of humble service, love in action while providing high quality lessons that meet the needs of all learners and which align with the National Primary School Curriculum for Uganda. You will also be expected to keep yourself up to date and to adhere to all the policies and regulations stipulated by the Uganda Ministry of Education and Sports. As part of the wider RI Uganda team, all RPS teachers are expected to act as a role model for the organization’s positive culture, promoting the Mission and living the values of RI on a daily basis. Your performance in this role will also be evaluated based on your continuous demonstration of high level of positivity, respect for diversity and collaboration with other team members in the organisation towards achieving a shared organizational purpose of empowering vulnerable communities of Kabale through education and economic opportunities.
Specific duties:
Planning;
- Develop schemes of work for all subjects assigned every term and submit to the Head teacher for review in time and aligning with guidelines from National Primary School curriculum of Uganda.
- Make high quality weekly lesson plans clearly defining the teachers’ objectives, learning outcomes, timeline for activities, materials to be used, strategies for engaging learners, methods of learner assessment, etc. Lesson plans should be submitted to the Head teacher for review by end of week preceding week of lesson delivery.
- Prepare all appropriate teaching materials required to deliver lessons and as indicated in the lesson plans and make sure such are organized and in good condition to be used before the lesson.
- Work with supervisor to develop an annual plan for regular co-curricular (debates, dance and drama, talent shows, etc.) activities and sports days.
- Work with fellow teachers and supervisor to develop class time tables to include time for different lessons, play time, time for Co-curricular activities as well as time for assessment (exams & tests)
- Work with supervisor and fellow teacher to plan and execute successful school events including but not limited to Academic visitations, Sports days, Graduation days, PTA General meetings.
Teaching and learning;
- Deliver engaging lessons for all subjects assigned according to the time table and following the approved lesson plans.
- Use learner centered and exciting methods of teaching like games, role play, puzzles, storytelling, quizzes, in order to boost interest, encourage learners’ curiosity, imagination, creativity, problem solving skills, as well as creating opportunities to build the learners autonomy in their own learning process and outcomes.
- Foster positive relationships in the classroom as a way of helping to improve learners’ sense of belonging, increase engagement and establish a caring classroom culture.
- Practice excellent personal management when interacting with learners inside or outside the classroom, showing enthusiasm and positive mindset, showing respect/kindness to all learners regardless of their background or circumstances and being promptly responsive to the learners needs.
- Use inclusive teaching methods tailored around the different learning abilities of your students
- Develop and implement a remedial teaching plan for below-average learners.
- Keep the classroom/s always neat, organized and orderly; making sure that all learning spaces including furniture and other equipment is safe for the learners.
- Innovate strategies to educate and support learners to adhere to all RPS rules and regulations as well as classroom code of conduct.
- Oversee learners during recess, meal breaks and during other activities to ensure safety of the learners at all time while at school.
Learning assessment;
- Regularly prepare and administering homework and assignments to assess and enhance the learners’ levels of understanding
- Prepare, administer and grade Beginning of Term, Mid-term and End of term exams for all subjects taught, conduct corrections and submit accurate exams assessment results in time.
- Participate in the Examination marking Quality Control process, be open to receive feedback and implement corrective action in time.
- Create and distribute progress reports to both learners and parents, and conduct parent-teacher meetings to discuss the progress of learners as well discipline or any other issue requiring combined effort.
- Take initiative in identifying and communicating/reporting any challenges affecting our learners, taking responsibility for following through to arrive at solutions in time.
- Cultivate and maintain positive relationships with RPS parents, acting as a role model in the community while upholding a positive and respectful image as a staff of Rukundo international.
Teacher continuous professional development;
- Be responsible for continuously improving your own professional skills as a teacher by suggesting priority areas for skills development, participating in all CPD trainings organized by the organisation and implementing all skills trained.
- Participate in RPS classroom observation process, be willing to give and receive feedback positively and to implement agreed actions while being proactive in suggesting ways to continuously improve this process.
- Participate in all other trainings organized by Rukundo International in different areas
- Participate in; all staff meetings, RPS planning activities as requested, staff quarterly and annual performance reviews and any other Rukundo International HR activities.
- Adhere to all RPS and RI policies and employee performance expectations
