  1. INTRODUCTION
Village Enterprise works to end extreme poverty in rural Africa through entrepreneurship, innovation, and collective action. For over 36 years, we have implemented a locally led Graduate Program across Kenya, Uganda, and Rwanda. Through training, mentoring, and seed funding, we equip first-time entrepreneurs with the tools and knowledge needed to build sustainable businesses and savings groups, lifting families and communities out of extreme poverty.

  2. PROGRAM DIGITIZATION CONTEXT
Village Enterprise is currently digitizing its entrepreneurship training curriculum to enhance accessibility, engagement, and learning outcomes for rural entrepreneurs. The curriculum includes:

  • In-person facilitator-led sessions

  • Self-paced digital learning modules accessible offline via Kolibri

  • Multimedia content (audio, video, and visual learning aids) designed to support low-literacy learners

As part of this transformation, scripted instructional video content is being developed to support entrepreneurs in their learning journey. To ensure linguistic inclusion and localization, we are seeking high-quality translation services into Acholi and Ateso for this context.

  1. SCOPE OF WORK
The selected translators will be responsible for:

  • Translating video scripts from English to Acholi and/or Ateso

  • Ensuring accuracy, clarity, and contextual relevance

  • Maintaining a culturally appropriate tone and simple vocabulary suitable for low-literacy adult learners

  • Collaborating closely with the Village Enterprise content and production team to clarify terminology and context where needed

  • Reviewing and revising translated text based on feedback

The translations will support production of audio/video learning materials used by Business Savings Groups (BSGs) in rural Uganda.

  1. DELIVERABLES

  • Fully translated and reviewed scripts for instructional training videos (Word format)

  • Glossary of key business and savings concepts in Acholi/Ateso

  • Final approved translations ready for voice-over recording

Interested individuals or firms should demonstrate:

  • Fluency in English and Acholi and/or Ateso (spoken and written)

  • Proven experience in translation work, preferably in development, training, or education projects

  • Familiarity with rural Ugandan contexts and business-savings group terminology

  • Ability to translate into clear, simple language suitable for grassroots audiences

  • Experience with curriculum or learning-content translation is an advantage
