The Board of Governors Kyebambe Girl's Scondary School is located in Fortportal City-Kabarole District Western Uganda invites qualified and competent applicants for the following:

Job Purpose

To support effective and safe delivery of practical science education by preparing laboratory materials, maintaining equipment, supporting teachers and ensuring compliance with laboratory safety procedures.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

The Laboratory Assistant will:

  • Prepare laboratory rooms, equipment, apparatus, chemicals and specimens for practical lessons.
  • Assist science teachers during practical experiments and demonstrations.
  • Ensure laboratory equipment is properly cleaned, stored and maintained.
  • Maintain an up-to-date inventory of laboratory equipment and materials.
  • Monitor stocks of chemicals, reagents, consumables and other laboratory supplies.
  • Report damaged, missing or expired equipment and materials.
  • Assist in preparing practical examination materials.
  • Ensure proper labelling and storage of chemicals and specimens.
  • Maintain laboratory safety standards at all times.
  • Ensure appropriate personal protective equipment is available and used.
  • Support proper disposal of laboratory waste.
  • Maintain laboratory records, including stock and equipment registers.
  • Keep laboratories clean, organised and ready for use.
  • Report accidents, spills or safety incidents immediately to the relevant supervisor.
  • Assist with routine maintenance and minor troubleshooting of laboratory equipment.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the Head of Science Department or school administration.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Diploma or relevant qualification in Laboratory Technology, Science Laboratory Technology, Applied Sciences or a related field from a recognised institution.

Experience

  • Previous experience working in a school or science laboratory is preferred.

Key Competencies

  • Good knowledge of laboratory procedures and safety.
  • Practical understanding of science laboratory equipment.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Good organisational and record-keeping skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with teachers and students.
  • Responsible handling of chemicals and laboratory materials.
  • High level of integrity and safety awareness.
