Makerere University, in partnership with the Mastercard Foundation, is implementing the Africa Climate Collaborative from 2025 to 2033. The Program seeks to strengthen Africa’s preparedness and response to climate change by developing a critical mass of thought leaders capable of driving the continent’s transition to green and resilient economies. The Africa Climate Collaborative Program at Makerere University will offer fully funded scholarships to outstanding young Africans at Master’s, PhD and Post-doctoral level. Additionally, the program will offer training opportunities for Youth to gain knowledge and skills in green entrepreneurship, facilitating transitions to a green economy and promoting job creation.
Makerere University is pleased to announce three (4) Vacant Positions under the Africa Climate Collaborative at Makerere University. For all Positions, Persons with Disabilities are encouraged to Apply.
Responsibilities or duties
- Process payments in accordance with the University guidelines
- Maintain payroll system including tracking benefits and ensuring compliance with applicable taxes and other deductibles
- Prepare the annual program budgets
- Ensure timely accountability of Program funds
- Coordinate the proper documentation, timely processing and archiving of financial documents
- Support the internal and external audit processes by providing the supporting financial documents
- Support all Program Staff in the procurement processes in liaison with Makerere University Procurement and Disposal Unit
- Monitor budget performance
- Closely coordinate with the banking service provider to operationalize the provisions of the Memorandum of Understanding
- Monitor, identify and report any safeguarding concerns that may arise during the Program implementation
- Perform any other related duties as may be assigned by the Supervisor
Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)
- MBA (Finance/Accounting option) or MSc. Finance and Accounting with full professional accounting Certificate from a recognized institution.
- An Honour’s Bachelor’s degree in Commerce or Business Administration (Finance/Accounting) or Finance or Certified Public Accountant (Uganda) or Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) from a recognized institution.
- Must be a member of Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda (ICPAU).
Experience needed
A minimum of 3 years’ relevant work experience at the level Finance Officer in a reputable organisation.

- Strong knowledge of financial accounting principles.
- Competence in monitoring and reviewing expense reports for compliance with institutional and program guidelines.
- Competence in consolidating financial data and supporting audit preparation.
- Familiarity with procurement and financial policies.
- Strong capacity for accurate financial documentation, filing, and archiving.
- Demonstrated capacity in data analysis, monitoring and evaluation, and results-based reporting
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
