Mission/ Core purpose of the Job
The Senior Financial Analyst – Financial Operations spearheads financial analysis and oversight across mobile money operations for assigned operating companies. The role provides senior level support in reconciliation governance, revenue and commission assurance, journal review, receivables oversight, liquidity monitoring, audit remediation, and process improvement.
It also serves as a key business partner to Finance, Operations, Technology, and market teams by turning financial data into actionable insights, strengthening controls, resolving issues, and supporting informed decision making across the business.
Responsibilities
Main Job Functions:
Key Deliverables
- Senior Financial Analyst- will be accountable for achieving the following objectives:
- Oversight and control across mobile money financial operations by
- Ensuring the accuracy of reconciliations, revenue and commission validation, journal integrity, receivables monitoring, and audit follow-up.
- The role supports strong financial governance.
- Timely issue resolution, process improvement, and informed decision making across assigned operating companies.
Responsibilities
- Supervise daily, weekly, and monthly reconciliations of assigned mobile money trust accounts between EWP, bank statements, and related financial systems, ensuring timely resolution of reconciling items and escalation of high-risk exceptions.
- Developed and maintained financial and management reports within FCCS and EPBSC systems, enabling data-driven decision-making and supporting both recurring and ad hoc analysis.
- Supported data integration and data loading processes across Hyperion and Vena platforms, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timely availability of financial data.
- Performed reconciliations across multiple financial systems (FCCS, EPBSC, Vena, Hyperion) to ensure data consistency, identify discrepancies, and strengthen overall data integrity.
- Performed month-end close reviews and validation checks, strengthening financial integrity, identifying variances, and ensuring compliance with reporting standards.
- Collaborated with cross-functional and multi-country stakeholders to resolve operational challenges, enhance internal controls, and drive continuous improvement in financial processes and efficiencies.
- Supported the preparation of executive level presentations and management reports, translating complex financial data into clear insights for senior leadership decision making.
- Provide oversight of restricted cash and prefunded account reconciliations between Ericsson Converged Wallet and the general ledger, ensuring balances are accurate, supported, and aligned to financial reporting requirements.
- Review, validate, and support sign-off of transaction revenue for assigned operating companies, ensuring completeness, accuracy, and alignment with approved accounting treatment prior to general ledger posting.
- Oversee the identification and recognition of unliquidated signed-off revenue as receivables where applicable, including revenue related to offline transactions and customer-related balances.
- Lead commission validation activities for online and offline channels, including precomputation, variance analysis, exception review, and support for weekly sign-off processes.
- Monitor revenue liquidation and transfer timelines to bank accounts, identify trends in delayed settlements, and recommend corrective actions to improve cash conversion and operational efficiency.
- Perform in-depth analysis of agent commissions to assess completeness, accuracy, commercial reasonableness, and compliance with approved rates and transaction data.
- Review journals posted in the mobile money system to confirm integrity, completeness, and compliance with accounting policies, internal controls, and reporting standards.
- Prepare, review, and present reconciliation schedules, exception reports, trend analysis, and management insights for month-end reporting, governance forums, and audit review.
- Partner with Finance, Operations, Technology, Treasury, and market stakeholders to investigate complex issues, improve processes, and strengthen end-to-end financial controls across mobile money operations.
- Support business decision-making by analyzing financial and operational data, identifying key risks and opportunities, and providing recommendations to senior stakeholders.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives, including standardization, automation opportunities, control enhancements, and documentation of operating procedures.
- Verify customer liquidations processed on EWP for completeness and accuracy, and lead investigation of discrepancies, delayed settlements, and recurring operational issues.
- Track, coordinate, and support timely closure of audit findings and control recommendations related to mobile money financial operations, ensuring effective remediation and proper documentation.
- Provide guidance and informal mentorship to junior analysts or team members, promoting consistency, quality, and strong analytical discipline across deliverables.
Escalations
- Escalate issues that will result in severe time, scope, productivity, and cost or resource impact to MTN Group Fintech BV MD/CFO.
- Manage and provide solutions to escalations that have multiple processes/functions impact on the critical path of service delivery, keeping MTN Group Fintech BV MD/CFO apprised of the same.
Reporting
- Share weekly and monthly reports or as would have been defined as per business requirements within the agreed SLAs
- Gather all the requests and prepare operation report for submission to MTN Group Fintech BV MD/CFO
- Report on an ad hoc basis on specific enhancements, as required.
Operational Delivery
- Monitor work of team, to align with overall requirement for management of operational objective
- Maintain strategic relationships with group operational companies in order to timeously coordinate and report on business objectives to further Fintech business growth
- Other tasks and duties, as assigned
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Accountable for the morale, performance, and development of the function’s human capital
- Cascade and socialize work structure processes to enable adoption by the team
- Coach and mentor direct reports
- Ensure assigned team is led, motivated, and rewarded to achieve KPA’s

- Ensure effective management of diversity among personnel in the function
- Identify staff training and development needs and implement necessary actions, in collaboration with HR

- Provide career development for direct reports (counselling, coaching, identifying key performance areas, career planning, and goal setting), in collaboration with HR
Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field.
- Professional accounting or finance qualifications such as ACCA, CPA, CIMA, or CFA are preferred.
Experience:
- At least 5–7 years of progressive experience in financial analysis, reconciliation, financial operations, fintech, banking, or a related environment.
- Fluency in English
Competencies:
Functional Knowledge:
- Strong understanding of financial reporting, general ledger processes, journal review, receivables, revenue recognition, and internal control frameworks.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze complex financial and operational data, identify trends and risks, and translate findings into clear business recommendations.
- Advanced proficiency in Excel and financial systems, with the ability to work with large data sets, perform variance analysis, and improve reporting processes.
