The Senior Laboratory Chemist is responsible for leading complex chemical analyses, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of laboratory data, and supporting production and R&D through advanced technical expertise. This role involves method development, troubleshooting, mentoring junior staff, and upholding strict safety and compliance standards (e.g., GLP, ISO).
Responsibilities or duties
- Perform advanced qualitative and quantitative chemical analyses using sophisticated instruments (e.g., HPLC, GC-MS, ICP-OES, FTIR).
- Develop, validate, and document new analytical methods and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Interpret data, prepare detailed technical reports, and present findings to management and cross-functional teams.
- Lead investigations into out-of-specification (OOS) results and non-conformances.
- Ensure the laboratory is always audit-ready, complying with all relevant safety, environmental, and quality regulations.
- Calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment.
- Train, mentor, and oversee the work of junior chemists and lab technicians.
- Manage inventory of critical laboratory chemicals and supplies.
- Champion laboratory safety protocols and promote a culture of continuous improvement.
Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
Experience needed
Minimum of 5-7 years of hands-on experience in an industrial or research laboratory.
Technical Skills: Proficiency with advanced analytical instrumentation and software. Strong knowledge of statistical analysis and quality systems.
Soft Skills: Excellent problem-solving, leadership, and communication skills. Meticulous attention to detail and ability to work independently.
