The Social Performance Manager provides strategic leadership for all social performance activities across the organization. This role ensures that operations meet international standards on stakeholder engagement, community development, human rights, and grievance management. The Manager drives long-term strategies that strengthen community relationships, mitigate social risks, and enhance the company’s reputation for responsible business practices.
Responsibilities or duties
- Develop and oversee the company’s social performance strategy.
- Align social performance initiatives with corporate sustainability goals and business objectives.
- Lead Human Rights compliance requirements and oversee any issues related to project-induced in-migration and gender aspects.
- Lead and mentor social performance teams across multiple sites.
- Integrate management of social risks into corporate decision-making.
- Guide socio-economic development programs that enhance community social information, education, communication (IEC) health & safety, and livelihoods.
- Ensure that effective grievance mechanisms are developed and proactively implemented.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with communities, local governments, NGOs, and industry partners.
- Oversee social consultation processes to ensure transparent and inclusive dialogue.
- Identify, assess, and mitigate social risks related to operations and projects.
- Ensure compliance with international frameworks (e.g., IFC Performance Standards, UN Guiding Principles, Global Industry Standard on Tailings Management).
- Ensure culturally appropriate engagement with Indigenous Peoples and vulnerable groups/persons.
- Monitor and evaluate community initiatives for impact and sustainability.
- Deliver compliance, assurance, and governance activities related to social performance.
- Prepare reports for executive leadership, regulators, and external stakeholders.
- Represent the company in industry forums and multi-stakeholder platforms.
Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)
- Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, Sustainability, Community Development, or related relevant field.
- 10 years of experience in social performance, stakeholder engagement, or sustainability leadership.
- Proven track record in extractive industries, energy, or large-scale infrastructure projects.
- Experience managing large, multidisciplinary teams in diverse cultural contexts
- Strong leadership and strategic thinking.
- Expertise in stakeholder engagement, conflict resolution, and negotiation.
- Deep knowledge of social performance standards and sustainability frameworks.
- Excellent Communication and cross-cultural management skills.
- Ability to manage complex projects across diverse geographies.

Eacop logo East African Crude Oil Pipeline co (EACOP) is in charge of the construction and the operation of the 1,443km crude oil export infrastructure that will transport Uganda’s crude oil from Kabaale – Hoima in Uganda
