Department: Academic Affairs
Reports to: Principal
Duty Station: HEDEF Islamic and Vocational Institute (Any Campus)

1. JOB PURPOSE
To plan, deliver, assess, and continuously improve competency-based training in Mobile Phone Repair in accordance with the TVET Act, 2025, the Uganda Vocational Qualifications Framework (UVQF), TVET Council Regulations, and HEDEF Islamic and Vocational Institute policies. The Trainer shall equip learners with practical technical competencies, entrepreneurship skills, employability skills, and professional ethics required for self-employment and the labour market.

2. KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

A. Training Delivery

  • Deliver Competency-Based Education and Training (CBET) using approved occupational standards.
  • Prepare annual teaching plans, schemes of work, lesson plans, and training materials.
  • Deliver both theoretical and practical lessons.
  • Demonstrate mobile phone diagnostics, repair, maintenance, and troubleshooting techniques.
  • Integrate digital learning technologies and learner-centred teaching approaches.
  • Promote entrepreneurship, innovation, and employability skills throughout training.

B. Assessment and Certification

  • Develop assessment plans aligned with occupational standards.
  • Conduct continuous, formative, and summative assessments.
  • Assess learner competencies using practical performance-based methods.
  • Participate in assessment moderation and quality assurance activities.
  • Maintain accurate assessment records and recommend competent learners for certification.

C. Workshop and Laboratory Management

  • Organize and supervise practical workshop sessions.
  • Maintain workshop cleanliness, safety, and order.
  • Ensure proper storage, maintenance, and inventory of tools, equipment, and consumables.
  • Report damaged equipment and coordinate repairs.
  • Enforce occupational safety and health procedures.

D. Student Support

  • Mentor and coach learners academically and professionally.
  • Monitor attendance, discipline, and learner progress.
  • Identify learners requiring academic or personal support and refer them to the Student Welfare and Support Committee.
  • Support career guidance, industrial attachment preparation, and entrepreneurship development.

E. Industry Linkages

  • Develop relationships with mobile phone repair businesses and service centres.
  • Coordinate industrial training and workplace learning opportunities.
  • Engage industry experts in training activities.
  • Gather employer feedback to improve programme relevance.

F. Quality Assurance

  • Participate in classroom observations and internal inspections.
  • Implement recommendations arising from quality assurance reviews.
  • Support TVET Council registration, inspection, and licensing requirements.
  • Participate in institutional continuous improvement initiatives.

G. Record Management

  • Undertake DITTE or an equivalent instructor qualification where applicable.
  • Keep abreast of emerging mobile technologies and repair techniques.
  • Participate in TVET Council and industry training programmes.

I. Environmental and Safety Compliance

  • Promote proper disposal and recycling of electronic waste.
  • Ensure safe handling of tools, batteries, chemicals, and electronic components.
  • Enforce use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Support implementation of the Institute's Environmental Management Plan.

3. PERSON SPECIFICATION

Qualifications
Applicants should possess:

  • A Diploma, Higher Diploma, bachelor’s degree, or equivalent qualification in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, ICT, Mobile Technology, or a related field.
  • A recognized instructor qualification (DITTE or equivalent), or willingness to obtain it within the period prescribed by the TVET Council.
  • Relevant occupational competence in Mobile Phone Repair under the Uganda Vocational Qualifications Framework is an added advantage.

Experience

  • At least two (2) years of practical experience in mobile phone repair and maintenance.
  • Experience delivering competency-based training is desirable.
  • Experience supervising practical workshops and learner assessments is an added advantage.
