About the Role
YSAT is seeking a WASH Lead to lead the WASH component of its OCHA-funded Refugee Response Programme — overseeing construction of sanitation facilities, hygiene promotion, Community Hygiene Promoters, distribution of hygiene supplies, and WASH coordination across three settlements.
Recruitment is contingent upon confirmation of funding by UNOCHA's Uganda Humanitarian Fund.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead planning and implementation of WASH activities including construction of dome-shaped PSN latrines, tippy taps, hygiene supply distribution, and hygiene promotion
- Coordinate household sanitation assessments and prioritise vulnerable households including persons with disabilities, older persons, and other people with specific needs
- Train, guide, and support Community Hygiene Promoters (CHPs) to conduct household visits, campaigns, and sanitation awareness
- Supervise three Project Assistants – WASH and coordinate contractors, artisans, and community structures
- Represent YSAT in settlement-level WASH coordination meetings with OPM, District Water and Health Offices, UNHCR, and WASH actors
- Monitor WASH activities and prepare high-quality monthly and quarterly programme reports
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Water Resources Engineering, Civil Engineering, Environmental Health, Public Health, Water and Sanitation, Environmental Science, or a related field
- Minimum 3 years of experience implementing WASH programmes in humanitarian, refugee, or displacement settings
- Demonstrated experience supervising or monitoring construction of dome-shaped/PSN latrines, tippy taps, or similar WASH infrastructure
- Experience supervising field teams, CHPs, contractors, artisans, and community structures
- Valid motorcycle riding permit is mandatory; prior experience in Uganda refugee settlements is highly desirable
