ABOUT HEALTH PROMOTION INTERNATIONAL (HPI)
Health Promotion International (HPI) is a private consultancy company limited by shares with over 15 years of experience implementing community health promotion, public health, stakeholder engagement, social risk management, and community-based interventions across Uganda and East Africa.
HPI seeks to recruit a competent and experienced WASH Officer to support implementation of water, sanitation, hygiene, and community health interventions within project areas.
Position: WASH Officer
Duty Station: Project Field Locations, Uganda
Reports to: Technical Lead
JOB PURPOSE
The WASH Officer will support the planning, coordination, implementation, monitoring, and reporting of Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) activities. The officer will work closely with communities, local leaders, health structures, project teams, and stakeholders to promote improved sanitation, hygiene practices, environmental health, and community health outcomes.
KEY ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Technical Implementation
- Support implementation of WASH and community sanitation activities within project communities.
- Conduct hygiene promotion, sanitation sensitization, and community awareness activities.
- Support community mobilization for improved sanitation and hygiene practices.
- Conduct household, institutional, and community-level WASH assessments and follow-up activities.
- Support monitoring of sanitation and hygiene conditions within target communities and project sites.
- Promote safe water handling, handwashing, waste management, and environmental sanitation practices.
- Support implementation of disease prevention and public health promotion activities.
Community Engagement and Coordination
- Work closely with local leaders, VHTs, health assistants, community structures, and stakeholders.
- Support community dialogues, sensitization meetings, and outreach activities.
- Participate in stakeholder engagement and coordination meetings.
- Support grievance handling and community feedback mechanisms related to WASH activities.
Monitoring, Documentation and Reporting
- Collect and compile WASH activity data and field reports.
- Support preparation of weekly, monthly, and activity reports.
- Maintain proper documentation including attendance lists, field monitoring tools, and means of verification.
- Support monitoring of project indicators and targets.
Compliance and Safeguarding
- Ensure compliance with HPI, Client, and project operational standards.
- Promote safeguarding, workplace ethics, health and safety, and community protection principles.
- Adhere to QHSE requirements and project reporting procedures.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Health, Public Health, Water and Sanitation, Community Health, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- Minimum of 2–4 years of relevant experience in WASH, public health, sanitation, or community health programming.
- Experience working on donor-funded, NGO, infrastructure, oil and gas, or community development projects is an added advantage.
- Knowledge of community sanitation and hygiene promotion approaches.
- Experience in community mobilization and stakeholder engagement.
- Strong report writing and communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
